Idiot burning leaves

right on the corner of Rt 5 and Abell St. in Leonardtown. The fire department has their warning sign up for current fire hazard conditions (HIGH) on the opposite corner. The town and county are as dry as a tender box and this fool thinks it's the perfect time to light off a big pile of leaves. I thought cigarettes out the window were bad enough.

I think it'd make a good photograph to send to Jay Leno for a skit.

They haven't implemented a no open fires ban yet. This just seems like a total lack of common sense. We have plenty of volunteer firemen and rescue squad members that live close by. Maybe one of them will stop by and give him/her a friendly chat.

I always hear on the scanner "illegal burn." (Calvert County) They came into my neighborhood just the other day for an "illegal burn", guy was burning stuff in his yard. I wonder if this is the same type of burning, that I can't answer. Pretty stupid though.

That's just as bad as the idiot who lives next to my brother in law on Indian Bridge road... he decided rather than rake his leaves, he'd burn them... while they were still on the ground under trees.... :banghead: during a 40 MPH windstorm...:banghead: and then went in to make himself a sanwich....:banghead: setting 1/2 the culdesac on fire...:banghead:

At least these leaves were all raked into a pile. The house is backed up to the woods though, so if the fire was to get out of control, it would probably burn all the way to Brenton Bay. The other good thing is that at the time of the evening the leaves were burning, the wind has dropped off to nothing. Smoke was drifting across Rt 5 which could also have caused a problem, even if it is legal to burn.
