IE highjacked

I was checking out something and inadvertantly OK'd installing an active X control and it has highjacked my computer.

When IE starts instead of going to my home page it goes to www.protectstand.com.

It also keeps flashing system alerts warning me I have spyware and to buy and download their program to remove it.

Since it was an active X I went and disabled all the active x plug ins. No joy. I also deleted spycrush which was downloaded as well.

How do I make it stop?

Reset your homepage...
Go to tools, options..General and reset homepage.
That should do it.

Nope it doesn't. My hope page is in the window but it ignores it.
Not your HOPE page, your HOME page. Geez. The computer doesn't understand what you are hoping for.

Hope this helped.

Some one got spammed. Use your virus software or your spyware software and have them find it. Good Luck

Installed super antispyware and it has fixed most of it. The home page thing is fixed and I am not getting the pop up window now.

I still get a "system alert".

Super Antispyware found 78 items that made it through Norton.

My Grandson picked that exact bug from a game website. Get rid of ALL cookies. That allowed us to get Norton going and it eventually cleaned it up. That pop-up was some kind of aggravating. Good luck.

Get Adaware and Spybot. Disconnect from the Internet and run them until neither finds anything. Let them delete the cookies and everything they find. Reboot. Try again. When you finally get a completely clean report, then connect back to the Internet.

Active X shouldn't have done that.... I'm sorry.
Active X and an Active X control are two different things. The control allows the remotes site to take control of your system, install software, change your registry, and can steal your address book, passwords, and lots of other nasties.

Never let a site that you do not absolutely trust install and Active-X control.
