IE7 = CPU hog

I finally figured out what the problem is. Ever since I installed IE7, it pegs out my CPU for sometimes two minutes at a time at 97-99%. This, needless to say, is inconvenient.

I searched and searched for a solution and today I finally found it:

The Phishing filter.

Even if you have it set not to do automatic checks, it does it anyway and that's what causes the CPU to max out. So I disabled it and viola - no more problems. I have 4 tabs open right now and still speeding right along.

Tools -> Internet Options ->Advanced, then it's under the Security settings.

The very first thing I did when I upgraded. Now If I could just get firefox to not be a memory hog and I would be happy.

You should probably upgrade form the 8086 processor and two megs of memory..

PS, this is new to IE7, so you won't find it on previous versions.

I hate IE7 which is why I never upgraded my home systems. It's a dog no matter what. I use Firefox or AM Browser, AM being my preferred one.

My laptop running 256 freezes all the time. I had to disable Windows Updates but I can't roll back updates. Seems ever since WU ran, svchost.exe(sp? needed for internet) is running 120MB of RAM and 98% processor, on idle it runs 75MB of RAM.

My new laptop and my desktop are running 1GB each and run great, even with IE7.
