If Death Penalty Abolished, What Next?

"NEW YORK - More than at any time over the past 30 years, the future of capital punishment is in limbo.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments next term in a momentous lethal injection case. While it's widely expected that executions will resume in some form following that case, the moment gives Americans a chance to contemplate what would change if they stopped for good."

This doesn't have anything at all do do with this post; maybe it does.

When I read the thread title, the first thing to come to mind was comedian Ron White; who during his act; mentions that he is from "the great state of Texas" which has the death penalty; "and we....USE IT!"

Ron goes on to explain, ".....they are putting in an express lane." "If you commit a haenous (sp?) crime (usually meaning murder in any degree) and more than three people saw you do it; you don't sit for years on death row; you go straight to the front of the line."

In my opinion, that's the way it [should] be. More states need to adopt this improvement, not [abolish] it.

It's a value of life...

...issue.

Life is the most precious thing we have and to take a life, unjustly, is the worst crime one can commit. Therefore the greatest penalty you can impose is to take the life of one who unjustly took the life of another.

Many people do not think life is worth that much. So, abolish the death penalty and we cheapen life further, that's what's next.

I like how he says "if you kill someone in Texas, we kill you right back".

How fair is it to say "if you kill someone, we'll give you free room and board for life"?

I have always been an advocate of the death penalty for heinous crimes.

This thing about cruel and unusual punishment with a lethal injection always brings forth the same answer in me. I have stated it in these forums before I will once again.

The lethal injection should be Heroin.

I have witnessed many heroin overdoses, I have seen people awakened with a shot of Narcan and they wake up mad because the medic ruined their high. They cant wait to get back to another injection of Heroin.

It must be a great way to go, so many cant wait for that next high. They go out feeling great and just stop breathing as the muscles relax themselves to the point they are no longer working. Many of those awaiting death are already addicted. Those are the really easy ones. Just supply them with the drug and they will take it themselves.

The problem isnt with the death penalty ,its with the drugs used in the lethal injection.
The answer is simple a hotshot of Heroin.

In my opinion the death penalty should be painful. Higher deterrent factor that way. I am a big fan of the gas chamber myself.

Didn't they use to use the gas chamber? Why did they stop? I understand why they have almost complete stopped using the electric chair because there have been some cases of it malfunctioning. Is the lethal injection method supposed to be the most efficient way or something?

The main reason for stopping using the gas chamber was it was potentially fatal to the people who had to go in and remove the body. Plus it was painful as hell. Which is what made it a good deterrent.

NJ will make a great place for a deranged serial killer now. Knowing that he won't face death, he can kill as many people as he likes. I just don't understand it. If someone was proven to be the person who killed one of my family members, I would want justice. I would want to see that person die the same way they killed my loved one. Instead, NJ is going to give these criminals room and board for the rest of their lives at taxpayer's expense.

Room and board.. tax free living.. free medical, and better than most non-criminals have.. to include organ transplants.. dental, vision.. OH, and a free education if they so chose. Free cable TV.. free gym membership.. heat/ AC...

A life sentecne would work IF it was punishment, but NONE of our prisons, at least since the 60's, are punishment anymore... they are 'rehab' facilities. HOW are you going to rehab a lifer??? and for what??

You know that's a good point. Why offer any of those self improvement programs to lifers. Except of course life hardly ever really means life.
