Went back over the data and found several possible flights but can't confirm since no one saw them. This one probably was also not detected till it entered the lower 48.

No, they are saying it was tracked starting in Alaska. That's why people are saying it could have been shot down over the ocean there or barren land.

True, but no one knew if it actually had an explosive or radioactive payload. I'd want to put some room between me and it until there was a chance to see it didn't blow up and Geiger counters didn't peg off scale.

It was only off the coast of SC. It was being heavily tracked. They knew exactly where it was.
