673 university professors sign letter opposing courses on America's founding, Constitution

UNC professors say requiring courses on American history violates 'academic freedom'

Hundreds of professors at the University of North Carolina signed a public letter Tuesday opposing legislation that would require university students to take courses on America's government and founding documents.

The 673 UNC Chapel Hill professors revealed the public letter Tuesday, arguing the new courses and another bill in the North Carolina House of Representatives would constitute an infringement on the university's "academic freedom."

The first piece of legislation, House Bill 96, would require students to take a 3 credit-hour course covering America's founding and history. Required reading for the course would include the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Emancipation Proclamation, at least five essays from the Federalist Papers, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail and the Gettysburg Address.

Ironic Statement of the Month!

The 673 professors decry both bills as an attack on "expertise," arguing the American government courses constitute little more than indoctrination.

Ironically, the legislation as proposed passes Constitutional requirements. Maybe the instructors who signed the letter should be required to study the Constitution too.

Not hurting their wittle feewings is not a Constitutional guarantee.

That is HILARIOUS!!! :roflmao:

But that's what we get for allowing all those domestic terrorists from the 60s to dominate our higher education.

AND! Parents pay big money to have their kids sit in these mushhead classrooms and learn about gender dysphoria instead of something that can help them earn a living.

:roflmao:

I long for the day when "sending your kid to college" has the same stigma as "putting your daughter on the pole and your son on the corner." Of course, in Democratworld both of those are worthy noble professions, so.....

Based on answers from <30 somethings, I'm pretty sure they dont' teach it anymore.
They actively mis-teach civics. I can't tell you how many times I have heard that it's "unfair" or undemocratic that small states get the same amount of senators as large states.

They simply don't have any concept that states were/are individual sovereigns and that the tradeoff for smaller states to accept being part of the united states were these safeguards against mob rule. That the Senate exists precisely to keep one or two states (at the time VA and MA) from controlling the actions of all of the others.

Personally i never had any doubt that professors at college are anti-American educated morons.
Learned about all of that in Civics class in grade school.
Yes I did too. At least it was offered, I cannot say that I got straight A's in the course, but even I picked up some of it., but sadly today, Like Home Economics it disappeared in the schools. Many young people today do not even know that there are 57 states unless that were around when Obama was President.

Similarly I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone refer to the U.S. as a democracy.

On another note... The senate was roached when they started filling the seats by popular vote.

It's right in the freaking name - United States of America.

:dork:

Democrats drive me insane with their uneducated ignorance. Then they have the nerve to pretend they're the smart ones because they have a degree in Gender Studies or some other basket weaving crap from professors who teach them that math is racist.
