If you were in the market for a newer used 3/4 ton truck.

Looking at 2011 and up, diesel, 4X4, crew cab, tow package 3/4 ton truck less than 50K on the odometer. Which make model would you buy and stay away from and why? We're getting rid of our 24 foot TT and purchasing a new one in the spring with more space and more weight so we need to trade in the 1/2 ton and get something bigger.

I purchased my used 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins diesel back in 2012 and have been very happy with it. I've not had to tow with it, but have had it loaded up hauling stuff. There's been a couple factory recalls on it. Most notably the the issue with the tie rod. The local dealer takes care of them when I take it in for service. I'd purchase another Ram 2500.

Are Dodge trucks still having issues with the transmission?
Chevy guy here.

I'm partial to GMC. Their diesel and tranny setup are pretty tough, and found that the ride of a Chevy/GMC is far better than Ford or Dodge. No input on Toyota.

Good question. I've not had a single transmission problem with mine. (Damn! Now that I said that, the tranny will puke its guts on I-68 this weekend.)

Well, what is your half ton and what do you like and not like about it?

For the same reason if you put 1 ton in a half ton pickup you bend an axle.

I go that.. but Ford is advertising a 3300 lb payload in their F150. I would assume that means you can put 3300 pounds in the bed and NOT bend an axle.

That increase comes with the Heavy-duty Payload Package for about an additional $1500, it certainly isn't the low-end model.
