Yesterday, Gary Montez Martin opened fire at a manufacturing facility in Aurora, Illinois. He murdered five people and wounded several police officers before he shot and killed by law enforcement. The latest update is that Martin shouldn’t have been allowed to own his firearm. He purchased a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun in 2014 but was later discovered to have been convicted of an aggravated assault charge back in 1995 when he tried to apply for a concealed carry permit. As a result, he should have turned his firearm over to authorities. He didn’t (via NBC News)

On Saturday, Ziman said that Martin, 45, purchased a handgun on March 6, 2014, after being issued an Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card in January of that year. The firearm, a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber, was in Martin's possession as of March 11, 2014.
The FOID card application process includes a background check, but applicants are not fingerprinted, Ziman said
It was only when Martin applied for a concealed carry permit on March 16, 2014, that he was fingerprinted and it was revealed he had a 1995 felony conviction for aggravated assault in Mississippi.

We need more gun laws. More more more. That would have prevented this. But wait, does that mean he lied on the questionnaire? The BATF form 4473? The question about having ever been convicted of a of domestic violence? Or being convicted of a felony? We need a law to stop people from lying.

So let's look at the few facts we have. He bought the gun on 3/6/14 after passing a background check although he lied on the application. He took possession on 3/11/14. He then applied for a concealed carry on 3/16/14 and was denied for having a felony conviction in Mississippi.

Now the question. Why was the gun that was illegally purchased which was in his possession as evidenced by the CCA application not confiscated at the time it was determined he lied on the purchase paperwork? More gun laws would not have prevented this. Strict adherence to existing laws would have.

Was wondering if this would ever get posted on here....surprised it actually was...usually you people don't discuss mass shootings that are perpetrated by people with American sounding names...oh wait...comrade GURPS includes the guy's middle name to make him sound like an immigrant....OH...and Gary Martin is a minority. So i guess you all have two good reasons why you can discuss this, huh?

You are completely delusional and I fear you may be a danger to yourself or others. See something, say something. Be nice to the white coats when they show up they are on your side. They know that the voices are real.

To mitigate the confusion with any other G. Martin. No, that wouldn’t fit your racist agenda. Why didn’t your daddy stick around long enough to teach you better? Is your momma ugly or just a ho that never figured out who your daddy be? The Maury show might help you better than this forum.

MSP actually goes out to confiscate regulated firearms if their database engine spits out that someone who has fallen through the cracks purchased a gun.

llinois State Police acknowledged Monday that the agency wrongly issued a gun license to the shooter in the Aurora warehouse murders, but in a detailed statement the agency also suggested that the Aurora Police Department may have failed to do its part to ensure the man no longer owned a weapon
