I don't know about you, but when I spend 60 dollars on spark plugs it makes my bank account cry. So my question is this, do you wonderful people know of any cheap places to get spark plugs? I called advance and autozone. But heres the thing... Factory calls for iridium and I need 6 of them. I called the dealer and they want 27.85 a PIECE!!!!! So any help would be welcomed.

Vehicle? Iridium seems a bit over the top. My car calls for platinum, but it's a bit high compression and runs hot, like at or over 215.

what year?

RockAuto has Iridium Autolites for $4.53/ea. Should be about $30 shipped. (If you have the 3.0L)

Not with Rock Auto, they are always quality products, brand names, got my tie rod ends and upper control arms for the Charger from them.

AF, some good info here

Of particular note, the plug maker does NOT recommend antisieze, which, BTW, I put on my Chargers 16 platinums way back at 70K. LEvel of effort to remove this last time was actually a bit harder than it was the first time. Also, no gapping irridiums, they come pregapped, and messing with them can screw up the irridium coating.

Umm,..hang on a sec. In the "old days", spark plugs cost little more than a bcuk a piece and had to be changed every 25,000 miles or so.

Now..in modern vehicles the plugs are good for 100,00 miles between changes...and people complain that they cost more?????

I had over 155,000 miles on my last 3 vehicles (265k on the Maxima) NEVER did I change my plugs on any of them.

I ran the plugs in my old '98 Expedition 4.6L V8 to about 135K miles before changing the plugs. The change was in order though..electrode regression was evident and it ran smoother at idle after the plug change.

But still.....135,000 miles with absolutely nothing to "tune up" and only one plug (and spark plug wire) change. Pretty amazing IMO.

Check Amazon. When I did the oil change, spark plugs and other associated stuff on the Jetta I had to find specific NGK iridium plugs they were by far the cheapest. Same with the oil cartridge, wanted a MANN one and no local stores carried them at the time. Plugs were $12 each, needs 5, but dont need to be replaced for 40k miles.

My truck is the same way, runs like crap with anything other than NGK plugs. My oil changes also run about $100 each, 7 quarts of synthetic and a good filter. I switched to Mobil 1 on the last change and regret it, so far my gas mileage has decreased, engine sounds terrible on cold starts and from all the reviews that rave about it I am very disappointed. Back to Royal Purple. I also run 15k miles between changes or once a year.

I dont care what kind or who it is or what it is...I would never go 15k without an oil change...

I go by the OLM on the truck. Usually kicks around 15k miles, or if it doesn't come on by the time the 1 year mark hits I change it. I've put over 90k miles on the truck and have done an oil change each year, bought in Oct 07. Numbers from Blackstone looked good on the last one. The Mobil one will be out in the spring at probably about half the normal interval.

Forgot to add. The Jetta calls for every 10k miles from VW. Of course I have to use their special 505.01 VW approved oil, or 0w30 synthetic. I have sent away one sample for testing after the first oil change (as new owners) @40k, just changed the oil for the 60k interval and will send away when I change again. Numbers for the Jetta were excellent.
