Old Town isn't bad at all. I read an article a few years ago that called it the perfect place for a single women in the metro area.

What is the rental market like there? I know a few years ago, it was tough. Good luck and you'll love it there. There is always some kind of activity going on right in the center of Old Town, plus great places to eat.

Depends on what you're looking for. We've been able to find a 3 bedroom "historic house" right in the middle of things for about $2000 a month. Also looking at a 2 bedroom condo right near the Metro for approx. $1650.
The funny thing is, splitting either one of those rents between two people will still be LESS than what I'm paying in Crystal City. Sad, sad, sad...

Arrest in Break-In An Alexandria area man was arrested Thursday night and charged with breaking into a nearby apartment and attempting to sexually assault a woman at knifepoint, Fairfax County police said yesterday.
The 57-year-old victim told police that she woke up about 3:30 a.m. April 3 to find a man in her bedroom in the 5600 block of Bismach Drive. The man attacked her and tried to sexually assault her, then fled.
That morning, a woman on nearby Beryl Road reported that a man had tried to break into her apartment. Police spokeswoman Mary Mulrenan said a Fairfax sex crimes detective, investigating both cases, met a man he thought fit the description of the suspect in both incidents. Late Thursday, police arrested Daniel W. Newman, 24, of the 6300 block of Beryl Road. He was charged with abduction for immoral purposes, attempted rape and burglary with intent to commit rape, Mulrenan said.
