`In God We Trust' will move from edge of new coins

"WASHINGTON (RNS) The national motto "In God We Trust" will move from the edge of new dollar coins honoring U.S. presidents to the front or back of the currency.

A provision in the $555 billion domestic spending bill for 2008, which President Bush signed into law on Dec. 26, calls for the change to take place "as soon as is practicable." Greg Hernandez, a spokesman for the U.S. Mint, said the change will occur in 2009."

I dont remember getting a new coin with In God We Trust on the edge, but I might gate a couple and hold onto them, some day they may become collectors items.

I like the idea of putting this back where it belons

Funning thing putting "God" on money.

Didn't think "God" would want his name on currency of any type.

Ya hear about the Catholic priest, the Baptist minister, and the Jewish rabbi who were talking about how they deal with the weekly collection?

The priest says, "I draw a 3 foot circle on the floor. Then I throw all the money up in the air and what ever lands inside the circle I keep and the rest is God's."

The minister says, " I do the same thing only I keep what falls outside the circle and what ever lands inside is God's."

The rabbi says,"I do something similar only I don't draw a circle. I throw the money up in the air, God grabs what he wants and what ever comes back down is mine."

The mint is going to keep the motto anyway. Being a collector, I liked the idea of having something on the edge. As the 2008 coins will be the only ones minted in this fashion they'll become more "collectible" than the later coins.

To keep all Americans of all faiths happy, the motto could be changed to "In the Gods We Trust"!

I'd rather see god out of my government and off my money all together.
