BALTIMORE, MD (February 2, 2023) – The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a police-involved shooting involving an officer from the Baltimore County Police Department that occurred on Tuesday morning.
On January 31, at approximately 6:10 a.m., detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Support Team were in the 10700 Block of Pulaski Highway in White Marsh conducting surveillance on a SUV occupied by two people. Detectives were aware that the driver had multiple outstanding warrants. Detectives attempted to perform a vehicle block to pin the SUV in order to apprehend the driver. Detectives then exited their vehicles and approached the SUV when the driver maneuvered out of the block, striking an unmarked police vehicle. Detective J. Trenary discharged his firearm, striking the driver. The SUV continued traveling through a parking lot and struck an unrelated civilian vehicle before crashing. The SUV driver, an adult male, was struck in the upper body and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. No other individuals were injured.
Detective Trenary is a 16-year veteran of the Baltimore County Police Department. The name of the injured man will not be released at this time.
