BALTIMORE (June 28, 2022) – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal crash involving the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) on June 21, 2022.
On June 21, at approximately 12:40 p.m. Baltimore City Police Officer Alexis Acosta was driving a marked BPD cruiser along the 2400 Block of E. Biddle Street with lights and sirens activated when he entered the intersection of E. Biddle Street and N. Milton Avenue and struck a scooter. The driver of the scooter, 58-year-old Terry Harrell of Baltimore, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Mr. Harrell died from his injuries on June 23. Officer Acosta was not injured. The Baltimore Police Department notified the IID of Mr. Harrell’s death on June 24.
Officer Acosta is a 1.5-year veteran assigned to the Operations Bureau.
The BPD cruiser is not equipped with a dashboard camera.
The Independent Investigations Division with the assistance of the Baltimore Police Department’s C.R.A.S.H Team continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
