Indian Burial Grounds

Hi Henry! What a blessing to have you! History is so awesome! I live in Clements on a parcel of ground that used to be known as Cecil's Chance. It's currently a 56 acre farm inhabitated by an old county family.

A few years ago I was down at the St. Clements Island Museum and when the curator asked me where I lived, he said that the land sits directly on an old Indian burial ground.

How do I go about finding out "which Indians" and if this is true? Are there maps somewhere?

I find this all so cool!

I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I am not an expert on the local Amerinds. Probably the best place to go for information is Susan Wilkinson at Historic St. Mary's City, Lydia Wood at the St. Clement's Island Museum, and the Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park in Accokeek.

If this is not helpful, let me know.

I think it's neat too. I didn't know that, Kain. That must have been Mike Humphreys you talked too. What a great guy. There is the Historic Society in Ltown too that might have some info.
