This is so stupid. I have never been in a class where what people where is a distraction. Kids just want to be comfortable in their own skin. The only reason it causes a distraction is because school officials make such a big deal about it.
where what people where ??? Who? Why?? When???

Maybe if they payed better attention, they would know how to spell and use proper grammar ya think??

I sort of thought baggy pants was a little ridiculous but then I realized that it probably means you can see ass crack.

When I was in gradeschool 20 years ago there was a big to do about tieing a bandana around your leg, that wasn't allowed.

In a godforsaken place like Haiti, school kids wear uniforms even though many of the schools don’t even have roofs and daytime temps reach 120 degrees. Kids in a place like that just want to learn so they can have a glimmer of hope in their lives. I doubt those kids are complaining about not having cell phones in school.

School board members said they support Mayerik and the mass suspensions. "I'd be supportive if half the school was sent home, because 99 percent will get the message our schools are for education," board president Rebecca Ward said.

:yay:

The parents might b!tch about it, but they are supposed to read and sign off on the dress code as well.

Sorry slaphappy-I agree w/the school principal on this. Have you seen what some kids wear to school-drive by a bus stop sometime.
I seem to recall  what I sometimes left the house wearing and what I showed up in school in, weren't the same.
Those suspended represented 10% of the 1,200 total students.

I also agree with the school. I'd vote for school uniforms if that ever became an option. The kids push the limits to see what they can get away with. Yes, it's a distraction.

Dress codes. :yay:

It's good practice for the real world. The kids can dress like bums and sluts when they get home. When I was in elem. school, girls weren't allowed to wear slacks/pants. They changed that rule about the time I started 6th grade. I had "school" clothes and "play" clothes. Wearing "school" clothes/shoes out to play got you an azz whipping.

I relaxed the rules for my own kids, but they never went to school looking sloppy. They're out of school now and they still dress nice.

Hmmmmmm and I guess you have worked in a school, and tried to teach children. What keeps us apart from the animal kingdom are rules and regulations. Teach kids while they are young......that is the problem with most kids now, not enough structure, mom and dads too busy trying to grab the brass ring, with children running amuck and raising themselves. Do you think they can dress like this even working at McDonalds?? In one thread you biatch about D.C. folks coming down here shooting, and in this one you biatch about not letting children wear (and pretty much do) whatever they want. Do you see that both can go hand in hand? If children do not respect themselves, they will have no respect for anyone else. Think about it, if they feel they can get away with breaking rules and defying the dress code, what could this lead to down the road?? Hmmm, so and so dissed me, so let me pop him outside the 7-11, I can do whatever I want regarding of society's rules anyway.

More of my $.02-

My biggest concern is for the children whose parents have not set a standard and those who expect the principals and teachers to do their jobs for them. Children lack the judgement to make certain decisions; that's why they have parents. :yay:

Why don't you peel off that Grateful Dead t-shirt that you wore (against the dress code, I am sure) since high school, put down that 10 oz, join the military and go stand up for something important.......then maybe someone will respect you enough to listen to your mindless :blahblah:

:yeahthat: Yeah, you couldn't wear your school clothes out to play after school. Had to change first. Now kids go to school in baggy pants with their azz or underwear hanging out. My folks would have kicked my azz if I went to school looking like that. Couldn't look like that at home either. And the bullsh!t about changing times doesn't cut it either. If you don't care how your kids look, then you don't care too much about your kids.
