The Associated Press reporting what we've been fearing, Justin Wilson has died.
My interest now is what new safety features will be proposed and implemented, if any, by the Indy Series.
Lots of talk about an enclosed cockpit, like what NHRA does with the top fuel dragsters.

Lexan w/tear-offs.
The reported fear of the drivers; being trapped in the event of a fire. With a bit of re-engineering, couldn't fire extinguishers be implemented? Going one step further; also somehow implement an emergency oxygen system for the driver for post-fire suppression system deployment.
Problem is, the cockpit in the open wheel cars are very small.
So are Top Fuel Dragsters. I'm kinda picturing a canopy, similar to modern fighter jets; that open like that, except with the hinge on the front; like drag boats. Just engineer a canopy for Indy cars that fully encapsulates the driver, with a charge similar to that used in passenger car airbags to eject the canopy, that can be driver-deployed after an accident, provided the car is upright. Couple that with either an automatic or driver activated fire suppression system; the one's used in T/A Funny Cars.
