Just a suggestion. Instead of trying to place your child anywhere because you can not find an open spot. Why not talk to friends/relatives/trusted neighbors, perhaps someone you know and trust could care for your child until you find him/her a safe daycare environment. Don't place the most sacred thing to you anywhere - because you have to go back to work. If necessary take an additonal leave from work.

Understood. We don't take chances with child care - we'll be checking out anybody that has an an opening before agreeing to place our baby there. But first, we need to find somebody with an infant spot open, which is damned hard on short notice.

We already had daycare with a good person lined up. Or so we thought. After the baby was born, we called to line up when the first day would be, drop off times, etc., and we were told, "oh yeah, I'm not starting that business after all, sorry". :ohwell:

Thus, the panicked "we need daycare now!" post. If the #### really hits the fan, we've got grandmas who will step up.

Did you check the classifieds on this site? There are 2 or 3 in L-town/Lex Pk that say they have infant openings.

i;ve been monitoring them for the last week or so. most spots fill up immediately so if it's older than a week, it's already gone.

Here's a suggestion: You could do what I did and place an ad on somd.com for a nanny. I did and found a lady who was a stay at home mom who wanted to watch another child in her home. Obviously, that's not a nanny, but it is a great situation where your little one will be in a private, family oriented environment. I got several responses from the ad and was able to do both phone and in-person interviews. I'm actually losing my daycare here in a few weeks so I can understand what you're going through!

A SAHM, who wants to watch another child in her home needs a license or else it's illegal. If she gets caught there are fines involved and she will be ordered to cease and desist immediately and leave you hanging. If someone is injured in the home, the insurance company can refuse to pay and immediately cancel her insurance policy.

I've posted numerous times on this subject, so all I'm going to say about it right now is that illegal care situations are bad news for both sides. Don't do it.
