inflammed Dew Claw

My maltese has an inflammed Dew Claw Is there anything I can do for him before he attends the vet 2moro?

Yep.... I keep childrens chewable Motrin on hand. Kids & dogs.

I thought ibuprofen wasn't good for dogs.

It doesnt appear to be infected ....just a bit inflammed around the root of the nail. Nothing is oozing out of it

Did he yank it? Probably very sore. Will he let you maybe tape it so it's not hanging? Can you trim it shorter?

Ok....just got off the phone from yelling at my Vet, only to find out it was MY mistake. He said NO Motrin.
Aspirin, only.
I feel like such a jerk! Thank God I only gave it to Woody 2 or 3 times.


He also reminded me about the fish oil. 1200 mgs once daily.
I've been giving him the fish oil since he was a puppy. It is supposed to be good for the heart somehow.

Oh thats ok n/p . I think he might have snagged it when we rough house play with him.......which he so much loves. I hope the vet doesnt tell me that he needs to have it removed as Ive heard that its VERY painful for the dog. Hopefuly he just eeds some extra TLC and some asprin.....but no doubt I will receive a steep bill from the vet 2moro :shrug:

I think he must of yanked it :shrug: I just checked his nail again but he keeps pulling back from me so it must hurt him I hate to see him in any pain. Im off out to buy him some asprin........hopefuly he wont have to go through the pain of having it removed. Thanks for your replys .

Hay NP! My Vet has always recommended Bufferin or any type of Buffered aspirin I guess. Coats the tummy! Good Luck!

Well Benji apparently hasnt got an infected Dew Claw BUT has got some allergy related problem. Vet said it might be insect related. Anyways she gave the poor guy a shot of Benadryl so hopefully he will soon get back to normal
