2 years ago it = $5.99 (I guess none of the SOMD franchises "participated" in the $5 offer so...)
1 year ago it = $6.99
Now it = $8.99

Inflation? Nope. Just the dollar losing more and more and more of its value, meaning it takes more of them to buy the same thing as previously.
