Intel pulls out of charity project for $100 laptops
"SAN FRANCISCO — Intel , the world’s largest chip maker, has split from a foundation working to sell $100 laptops in the developing world, ending a six-month truce with the nonprofit group’s founder, Nicholas Negroponte.
The company had reached a “philosophical impasse” with the One Laptop per Child foundation and Negroponte after he asked that Intel exclusively support the group’s XO laptop, Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said last week. Negroponte said on Friday that Intel had contributed “nothing of value” to the effort."
