Man Seeks Prosecution for Wife's Actions

RAVENNA, Ohio - A husband thinks he should be prosecuted for his wife's failure to stop driving while she breastfed their baby on the Ohio Turnpike.

Catherine Nicole Donkers, 29, of suburban Pittsburgh, is to go on trial Aug. 6 on misdemeanor charges of child endangering, failure to comply with the order of a police officer and several other driving infractions.

Her husband, Brad L. Barnhill, said he wants to be tried instead, citing religious beliefs.

"I'm responsible for what she does, and no one can punish her except me," said Barnhill, 46, a minister in the First Christian Fellowship for Eternal Sovereignty, an organization founded by Christopher Hansen of Henderson, Nev., in the late 1990s.

"That's a fantasy," prosecutor Victor V. Vigluicci said Tuesday. "I've never heard such a thing."

The couple has not yet hired an attorney, according to court records.

A truck driver called 911 on May 8 to report that he had seen a woman driving her car with a baby in her lap.

Asked why his wife did not stop to nurse the child, Barnhill said she didn't want to turn "a five-hour trip to Michigan into a seven-hour trip."

A conviction for misdemeanor child endangering carries maximum penalties of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

My first thought was why did he allow he to do it. But the article doesn't say if he was in the car with her or not, but the implication seems to be she was driving alone. So she didn't want to take time out and pull over to feed the child because she was making good time. :duh:

Here we go with the "I'm different because of my religion and your rules apply to me only based on it" argument with a twist.

So was he in the car with her? And if not why was she driving, I mean he wasn't there to control her so she shouldn't have been driving right??? BS, If that's the way he feels then they both should be punished. I mean she has a mind and she endangered that baby so she should be punished, if he claims he had anything to do with it punish them both!

I just hate it when people do stupid things with children. I've seen too many bad scenes with children not in safety seats for their to be any excuse! I hope they take the baby away from them.

Breast-feeding driver innocent of child endangerment, convicted of lesser charges

Catherine Nicole Donkers, 29, was found guilty of violating child-restraint laws, driving without a valid driver's license and fleeing police while on the Ohio Turnpike in May.

Prosecutors recommended Donkers be sentenced to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine instead of the maximum one year in jail and $2,000.

Donkers testified that she had stopped earlier on May 8 at a highway rest stop and fed cereal to the baby, a girl named Seren Barnhill. Donkers said she realized the baby was still hungry after she got back on the road.

"I called my husband, and he directed me to continue on, to drive to Michigan and nurse my child in the car," Donkers said.

:loser: What a dumbazz.

Not one, but two stupid people. I've never heard such a bunch of sh!t. She broke the law. Prosecute her a$$. Her husband may be an idiot, but they can't prosecute you for that. If there was a law against being stupid we'd all be in jail at one time or another.

The verdict is in...

Woman Sentenced for High-Speed Nursing

RAVENNA, Ohio - A woman who nursed her infant while driving 65 mph on the Ohio Turnpike was sentenced to three months of house arrest for violating child-restraint laws. :duh: Gee, hubby will like that. :duh:

Catherine Nicole Donkers, 29, was also fined $300 Thursday. The judge delayed the sentence for one month so she can pursue her appeal.

Donkers was found guilty in August of three traffic-related charges. She was found innocent of child endangering.

Donkers said her husband ordered her by cell phone to breast-feed their 7-month-old daughter to save time while she drove on the turnpike May 8. Police stopped Donkers after a trucker who saw her holding the baby on her lap called 911.

Donkers testified she did nothing wrong because the couple's religious beliefs require her to follow her husband's directives. They belong to the First Christian Fellowship for Eternal Sovereignty, which has a history of challenging the government.

So if hubby told her to jump off a 10-story building, she'd do it? :loser:

Well it's obvious that the husband in this instance is just braindead and trying to circumvent the legal system.

It's also obvious that the mother clearly can't think for herself let alone the assinine act of driving with an infant in her lap AND attempting to breast feed.

Now mind you I have no qualms about any woman breastfeeding in public it's a human natural thing big deal. But Driving a 3 ton fast moving vehicle while trying to hold an infant let alone breasfeed what was she thinking? How could she do Both. The image of total tragedy in this comes blatantly to mind.

The judge should remove the child from their custody asap. otheerwise it will either wind up dead due to their lack of common sense ( which seems more and more uncommon these days) or will have a warped thinking process like the parents. They will only do more harm than good.
