Interesting.... Unlimited Sweets Experiment

very interesting

At first thought I was like "no way in hell' but then after mulling over my own behavior for a while I've reconsidered my strong initial reaction. I graze and keep a lot of food at my desk. Mostly very healthy stuff but on occasion I'll have something sweet/junkie. Most recently I had a big box of Gobstoppers. The first couple days I tore through them but over the last couple days my consumption of them has really slowed down. Its probably because I'm use to seeing them day in and out and they're steadily available. I will say that I had several today because they were right in front of my face and I didn't feel like getting up to make popcorn.

It's the lure of the forbidden. Even guys will turn off unlimited porn after awhile.

True. Thinking back I was raised like that. As long as I can remember we had unlimited junk food in my house. As an adult I can't stand most of the crap I was raised on.

I distinctly remember my mom saying she was sick of us (me, bro, sis) always asking for pizza so she said we could have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if that was what we wanted. We were in heaven for an entire week before she finally broke!

If I'd have been smarter when my kids were young, I'd have let them have at it as well. But my brain hadn't made that connection between forbidden goodies and cravings yet.

What's wrong with pizza? It's just dinner on a crust

Pretty much. My 3 year old is into peanut butter and jelly. She wants it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This morning she had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. :killingme Hey, if it's good enough for lunch, what difference does it make if she has it for breakfast. The way I look at it is, there is as much sugar in most cereals as there is in peanut butter. I buy sugar free jelly and low sugar/fat free peanut butter. At least there's protein in the peanut butter.

My kids have unlimited access to soda, as I live off of Pepsi. I always have Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper, among other things, at my house.

My kids will choose water, gatorade or tea over sodas almost every time. I have two that never drink soda.

Now when I was a kid, we were NEVER allowed soda. Ever. I wasn't even allowed to get a soda from the vending machine when I was in high school (although I still did). We were also denied salt and now I put salt on everything.

Sonsie

The mighty Al-Sonsie!
My parents owned a bakery when I was growing up. I had free access to cake, pastries, donuts, and cookies daily. To this day I rarely if ever eat sweets and that includes candy.

Now salty and savory foods are entirely another story...

I never really was a candy person. My son is like that too. My daughter on the other hand is a sugar freak! She will eat any kids of candy. I tried to buy sugar candy but she knows the different. I never have bags of candy in the house unless i am making things for a school/sport function or Halloween. As far as soda my kids dont like it but they will drink it if its the only thing we have.
