Introverts are dreading a return to the noise, crowds and small talk of ‘normal’ life

Everybody can’t wait to return to normal. Except for half the population dreading the return to normal.

During a sad, tragic year, it was introverts who found a silver lining. There was more time alone, more peace and less of the personal and professional pressures they find so draining. The calendar was suddenly, blissfully empty. Life slowed down.

And now we’re returning to the pre-pandemic world, or as close as we can get. Like everyone else, introverts are excited about seeing family and close friends in person, dining in restaurants, traveling and all the other pleasures of a good life. But most are not interested in facing the forced small talk, the big parties, the noisy open offices and all the demands of extroverts who think more is more and introverts should try harder.

“People are saying, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to go back,’ ” says writer and introvert Jenn Granneman.

“It’s like being paroled for a year and then being told, ‘Actually, you’re going back to prison,’ ” says her partner, writer Andre Sólo.

Ew.

Wait... do you use Herbal Essence?

But seriously... when this shutdown thing started, I already needed a haircut. For shitz n giggles I let it grow since then. I called this odd-looking coif project "Bill's Last Mullet" in tribute to BLM. It's down to my shoulders in the back (still absent on top, of course, but man, can I create some amazing come-overs right now!!)

Alas...I'm flying to Florida this coming week for my daughter's PhD graduation and realized I can't show up looking like some freaky old homeless dude on meth... So bye bye mullet...

Getting rid of the mullet won't help. Really.

:ohwell: I can no longer get close enough to smell the woman's hair in front of me.
Seriously, I have missed walking past a good-smelling man.

Was walking to my car, mask-less, and got a whiff of men's cologne. It was wonderful.

It was almost full on creepy, but I kept walking.

I have no clue what this older guy was wearing, but a sniff fest was barely averted.

I am dreading the return of the busy body interferes.

I get more work done without them in the office, I get even more done teleworking.

we got an email back in the Fall from our corporate congratulating everyone on the increased productivity and work being accomplished  Like, they were genuinely surprised people would still work once stuck at home. But then again, before COVID my company had a basically zero TW policy with very few exceptions. They liked butts in seats.

I've been in my office 1-3x a week since the summer. I prefer my home, I love my TW-day routine, but when I do go in, I enjoy how quiet the office is right now. Not looking forward to being back to normal - unless I'm still allowed to TW when my workload allows. I will fight for this.
