Walt Disney Pictures' Invincible is based on the true story of Vincent Papale (Mark Wahlberg), a 30-year-old substitute teacher and part-time bartender who received the chance of a lifetime: to play on the Philadelphia Eagles. An inspirational underdog story in the tradition of Rudy, this film is an intense, moving tribute to the glory of NFL football and, in a wider sense, the upbeat American spirit. Wahlberg, a rather underrated talent, is outstanding as Papale (and acquits himself well in a very phsyical role), while Greg Kinnear offers solid support as a dedicated, but nervous coach. Cinematographed-turned-director Ericson Core creates intense football sequences and does a superlative job of re-creating '70s Philly (through ace production design and excellent musical cues).
The story is far from original (it ends, of course, on a high note and 100% aims to inspire and move), but the movie is extremely entertaining and left me smiling. Because of this, I give it a full recommendation!
