How does this usually work? Will a message come to my phone to upgrade and reboot type of thing or is there somewhere I need to go?

Apple Inc. said Tuesday that its latest update to its iOS mobile operating system will be available for download on Oct. 12.

Among other things, the new software will allow users to sync content on devices wirelessly, without having to plug the device to a Mac or Windows machine. It has iMessage, which lets people send texts, photos or videos to other Apple devices over Wi-Fi or a wireless data network, rather than on a cellular network. Also, swiping the top of the screen will bring up a notification page with appointments, reminders, weather, stock quotes and more.

Open iTunes and plug your phone in to your computer. If it doesn't automatically ask if you want to update, click on the "check for updates". Then, just follow the onscreen prompts, and sit back and wait. It will take a while (i.e. 30-45 minutes total).

Awesome, I will check it out when I get home. Thank you for the response!

ive been running a developer version of iOS 5 for about a month now. its a solid build. your going to enjoy it. once an untethered jailbreak is out for it, you'll enjoy it even more :buddies:

The update to way to long. It took me about an hour and a half to update my ipad and Iphone. Come on apple why does the update take so long?

why update... jailbreak and use 4.3.3 you idiots

Because the iPhone works just fine for me on its own without any extra tweaking needed. I like to know that things are just going to work, without having to spend countless hours fixing and updating a jailbroken device. I didn't shell out my money on the thing for the possibility of bricking my iPhone and having to shell out even more money to replace it since the warranty is now voided.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

My daughter hijacked my laptop to update her iPhone last night. She had it tied up for about 2 hours...

yeah it took a little while, but not at all hard work. Just plugged it when while watching TV. First had to update iTunes to the latest. Then download the new IOS 5. Then have that loaded onto my phone, after a couple reboots it was good to go.

I updated my phone the other day and now the ringtones I've purchased are missing. I finally got around to trying to figure it out and I'm stumped. I plugged the phone into my computer and when I pull up my iPhone in iTunes my ringtones are there. I synced it again and they're still not on my phone. What am I missing? I only have a few so it's not really a big deal, but it's annoying.

Did you check to sync all ringtones?

I updated my iPhone today and it didn't take 2 hours. I think it depends on people's connections etc.

I did. Then I went back and unchecked them, synced, then rechecked them and synced again. That worked. Go figure.

Hardest part is just downloading it

Iont know why but the updates always take a while to download but after that it take about 15 min. It takes more time if you set up as new phone and manually add stuff

I think understand what you are trying to say, so I will go with my gut and go ahead and agree.
