you would probably have to 'Root' your droid

basically break into your phones operating system, to allow you, the owner, to install any software you want

I did something similar with my iPhone, I 'jailbroke' it ......

this installs the 'cydia' store where I purchased an app called MyWi .... which allows me to turn my iPhone into a wireless hotspot, without paying sprint any more money

doing so, tends to void warranties ...

If you have one of the new price plans from Verizon Wireless, you can use your smartphone (e.g. Android, iOS) as a WiFi hotspot without additional charges and without jailbreaking such as GURPS mentioned. The data you use when doing so still counts against your limit though.

I'd recommend calling Verizon and asking them if you can do this. If you have an older price plan (e.g. with unlimited data), you can check to see what one of the new price plans would cost. Depending on your situation, it may or may not be a better option. Eventually you're likely going to be forced to give up your unlimited data anyway (if you still have it).

:yeahthat:

I recently got a new phone and plan through them. Their new thing is the "Share Anything" plans. If your phone is capable, you can use your phone as a hotspot without extra charge. As Tilted said, the data you share with your iPad will count against your overall limit, if you have one.

Yeh, I am aware of this option but am resisting giving up my unlimited
plan until I have no chioce.

I have this ( free version), can't seem to make it work.

Well, maybe you could give us some information that would be useful? For example, which phone? Which OS? Which version of iPad? Which OS? Are you having problems launching FoxFi? Does it create a hotspot? Can the iPad see the hotspot? Which wifi security are you using (if any)?

PDANET and Connectify should do the trick.

PDANET will let you share the internet connection. I could it to work tethered but not wireless... also added Connectify to share the PDANet connection wirelessly.

if you have a phone on an unlimited 4g data plan, and it has a micro simm from verizon, you can take that micro simm out, place it in an ipad, or a verizon jetpack to stream wifi, or a different iphone or droid, all without calling and asking permission. they automaticly detect it and if you pulled up your verizon wireless bill within minutes of switching, they will have updated what "phone" or "device" is assigned to that phone number. you can thank google as they guaranteed the fcc a 4.6 million dollar bid if they auctioned off the new 700mhz data this way, with no limitations on how a person used their simm card or data. just hold on to that unlimited plan like its grim death buddy.

Thanks for you response... I actually solved this by using... FoxFi - Turn Android into free WiFi Hotspot (no root)
works like a champ...
