iPod help!!

A while back, I had to get a new computer because the old one died. I decided today to see if I could get all of the songs on my iPod transferred onto the new computer. I have hit a brick wall. The iPod states that it is connected and should be ejected before disconnecting. BUT, it is not showing up as a device on the computer, so there's no way to eject it. It doesn't show up in iTunes either. Now I have an iPod with a lot of music on it that I cannot use anymore. I can't even hook it back up to the stereo to play what's on it. Any ideas??? I've ordered a new one figuring I will have to start from scratch, but was hoping there would be some way to "eject" this one so that we can at least listen to music.

Not much info here, but... with your iPod hooked up to your new computer, open 'My Computer'. You should see the device depicted on the Window that opens. Right click the device. A menu should appear. On the menu should be 'eject'. Left click that. Operating system information and whether you've reloaded iTunes on the new computer could prove helpful as well. Right now, I'm just guessing.

Thanks, but that's the problem. According to the computer, it's not connected. Doesn't show up in "My Computer" anywhere. According to the iPod's screen it is connected. I'm going to let it "die" then try plugging it back in. Maybe the darn thing will clear itself. In the meantime, my new iPod will be here tomorrow.

I don't have an iPod, but it seems to me iTunes was needed to view/transfer songs on and off an iPod. Do you have iTunes loaded on the new computer?

I do know you cannot move music from an iPhone to a laptop. My laptop always saw the phone as a storage device

Okay, quick update. Still haven't been able to get the old iPod transferred. I let the battery run down, re-charged it, and I'm at least able to listen to it again. The "Eject before disconnecting" message went away. I decided I wasn't going to fool with it anymore right now. New iPod is supposed to be delivered today by 8:00 p.m. Hmmmmmm. Not looking good! GW, yes, I do have iTunes loaded. The problem is probably a "version" one. The version loaded on the new computer is probably different than the one from the old computer/iPod. Looks like I'll just have to spend a day or 365 uploading all of my CDs onto the new one! Thanks guys!!
