ipod nano

I have a nano that I really enjoy. My only gripe so far is that I'm trying to listen to a 13+ hour audio book, when I go to charge my ipod by the usb cable, I lose my place on the audio book. Really sucks when you are four hours in and have to FF to the point where you were last at. Being 4 hours into the file, I have to hold down the FF button for probably near 30 minutes. Is there anyway to skip through faster?
