Iron Order MC of Southern Md.

Sunday, May 5th the Iron Order MC rolled in to the town of North Beach for the annual Blessing of the Bikes. Over 85 motorcycles creating that "rolling thunder" sound you could hear from a mile away. As they came over the hill approaching 5th Street the crowd damn near went silent. They were riding side by side, one closely tucked behind another in a carefully orchestrated formation.

As the Road Captain that led all those bikes, I can't even begin to describe the feeling of seeing all of my Brothers in the mirror behind me. I could not see the end of our bikes! Once we parked our scoots and gathered together to file into the 2 block area of the event, something happened. People began approaching us and introducing themselves. They found out that we are no different than anyone else. We love bikes, parties, beer and meeting people. We have always welcomed bikers to ride with us.

We are the Southern Md. Chapter of the Iron Order MC. The Iron Order MC is a law abiding MC with members from all walks of life. We are a strong brotherhood of men that share similar passions - motorcycles! We are also in all 50 States, 7 Countries and are now the largest independent MC in the Nation. When someone approaches us to join, we have them ride with us for a while. If both sides agree to move forward, we may invite that person to prospect. As a prospect, you must learn our history, our procedures, how we ride and make an effort to meet Brothers from other chapters at our many events. You must earn the right to wear our patch. If you make it, you will discover a Brotherhood, a family you never knew you were missing. We also involve our spouses and children. We become so close that each of us knows every Maiden and their children and every Brother in the club will drop what they are doing to help them if called.

There's a lot of mis-information out there on the forums and web in general and we've heard them all like "they are a cop club", "they are part of another club", "they tuck tail and run when confronted", "they're an internet club", "you can buy a membership into that club" and on & on. Don't drink the Kool-Aid! We are a traditional, 3 piece patch wearing MC. We ride hard, we ride a lot and we ride year round.

Hope to see some of you out there! Visit us at www.iosouthernmd.com

Cool, I guess, but not my idea of a fun or relaxing ride.

LOL! No, we had supporters in the crowd that told us.

@desertrat - A group that large doesn't happen as often as people think it does. Normally a bigger group of bikes can be from 10 - 20. I agree with you that riding in a large group like that in a tight formation can be a little stressful but its cool at the same time.
Normally, we ride to and from events or parties and bars, etc and just enjoy being with each other and having a great time.
I'm sure it's not for everybody though.

I don't mind riding with a group. Just not the tight, controlled formation type. I see no reason for it unless you have a very large group in an event type ride. Only one I went on like that was part of a ride from a funeral home to Arlington. Even that was broken up into several smaller groups. I rarely see the large rides down here. I see some 20-40 maybe riding somewhere. Usually Toots on a nice day.

Something around 40 is largest group ride I've ever been on...and it was for a funeral procession so the traffic management was already taken care of.

Yeah thats typically a rare thing. But thats why I was so hyped - leading that long line of Brothers was an amazing feeling.

Normally our club rides around Southern Md in a loose formation hitting places like Toots. If you ever see us - come on over and say hi! I'll buy ya a beer.

You should try and attend the Chrome City Ride for the Benedictine School. (RIP sister Jeanette)

Awesome event I've attended the past few years now.

We ride from Outback in Edgewater to the Benedictine school on the eastern shore. The entire ride along rt.50, across the Bay Bridge, and to the school is police escorted, and roads blocked for ease.
