Is crime in the US increasing?

Baltimore’s crime rate is three times higher than the crime rates of multiple Central American countries,
What is the reason for this?
Is Maryland’s approach to crime a success in Baltimore? https://wset.com/news/local/city-to...ome-to-squeegee-kids-if-they-stay-off-streets ,

I was all ready to point out it that doesn't make sense to compare a single city to an entire country. In pretty much every country in the world there is more crime in cities than in rural areas so the average for the country will be lower than a city.

That said, Baltimore appears to have 5x the homicide rate of the deadliest city in El Salvador (Ahuachapan).

I will go out on a limb here and say I expect many of these central and south american countries underreport their homicide rates.

Their president has claimed to arrested over 56,000 suspected criminals in the span of 9 months(1% of the population)

of course crime is increasing.. democrats are releasing violent criminals and the rest.
Now don't call me silly, merely thinking like a liberal.
If the same people are released and commit another crime, could it be argued that crime stats are not accurately reported as there are no "new criminals" being created. So therefore, crime has not increased, it's the same number of people.
