Is everybody but me rich?

This story got me thinking - Disney is already outrageously expensive, yet zillions of people go there anyway, to the point that Disney can raise prices. I *could* afford a Disney trip, but that's not what I want to spend a large chunk of money on.

What I can't afford is a $50k car, or a million $$ house, yet tons of people are buying these things.

When I was younger I'd see people my age buying these big ticket items and couldn't understand how we make the same income, yet they can afford a big house and high end car while I can't. They could buy $200 shoes while that was my grocery budget for the month. Even people I knew made a good bit LESS than me had more stuff.

I kind of have the wealth FOMO. Is everybody rich but me?

I don't know about others, but Greg's money market account is a gold mine.

Disney uses technology to predict attendance, they cut staff according. The result is they now can make more profit by charging more and doing less.

Lines stay long because there is less staff. Customers as of yet, seem put up with it, pay more willingly, so the business model works.

But why? Do people just like to be miserable? I'm someone who avoids crowds and long lines and anything that might trigger my violent urges. There is nothing on earth so fun that I want to stand around in a huge crush of irritating people to experience it.

When I was a kiddo my grandmother lived right next to Disneyland. It was actually a nice neighborhood in the 50s/60s, started going downhill in the 70s. When I would visit my cousins and I would walk over to the park in the afternoon and ask people leaving if we could buy their unused tickets, usually they would just give them to us. Then the teenagers running the entrance booths would often let us skip the $5 to get into the park, especially if it was later in the day. Then we would go back the next morning and sell our leftover tickets to people entering the park. Was a good scam.

Disney Adults have to be some of the most mentally stunted people on the planet

See, I'd go to Disney if I could have it to myself, maybe a couple hundred friends/family. I've been three times in my life and it was a CF, but I was younger and more tolerant of that sort of thing. The worst was taking my young kids, 3 and 6 - I don't even know why I thought that was a good idea. Taking the teenagers wasn't so bad, but it was still aggravating to spend most of the day standing in line.

Back then it was run by humans. Now it's a major conglomerate and so money-focused that they would never allow anything like that. $5 is $5 even when you're a billionaire.

Miserable?

Come on now, don't be so crotchety. People love giving their money away. Look how much people are willing to pay for sneakers, concert tickets, sporting events. Even the SM fair was a rip off.

Yeah, here admission was $15 and I was like, those people are out of their effing minds. Pay $15 just to get in, then pay for funnel cakes and corn dogs, and another $25 for a ride bracelet.

How can people afford to blow money like that?

Nice, cushy, government job?

Anyway, the free market works. We keep raising the rent on our vacation place every year, and every summer week for the next summer is gone by August.

$100.00 bucks to take my girl to the fair, those prices arn't bad.
Ahh pay check, savings, social security, pension, 401, annuity.
Living on a bullsh!t social security or SSDI check will not get someone to vacation at Disney.

It was reported that the last Alabama/Georgia college football game tix were averaging $800+ for nosebleed. Lower bowl tix were around $4K. Who TF has that money to go to those games??
The CEO of Ticketmaster has been quoted as saying "Current concert tickets are massively under-priced."

I can think of a lot better entertainment you could get for $100.
Yea sure, but thats not the feelings of all of the fair crowd. In reality a $100.00 is not that much money in todays world for a night out with your small family or date.
I don't recall that you have any hobbies, what do you think it costs for a couple to play 18 holes at a nice course with lunch?
Or to take ones family to go skiing at Snowshoe, WV for a long weekend?

We can spend that $100.00 at the bar, when we go out for dinner, lunch at Chic Fil-a for two is going to be 40 bucks.

Whats do you think it costs for one or two to move into a nice retirement community?

So how would you entertain yourself and your partner with $100.00?

See, and that's crazy yet they'll fill the stadium AND sell massively overpriced beers and food.

I about sht when I saw what they were charging for Taylor Swift Eras tickets - and her gigs were sold out.
