Is it safe?

My ac broke last night and they are bringing the part tonight to fix it. So, obviously the house is toasty today. I'm worried about my cats being in there. How hot can it get and still be safe for them? It was about 81 when I left for work. They have plenty of water. I'm stressing over this but can't find an answer about what is safe and what is too hot. Does anyone know?

Are the windows open? As a child, we had no AC and everyone survived just fine.

No, I can't leave the windows open because they push the screens out. I closed the curtains so the sun wouldn't bake in the windows.

If you have fans running and a cool spot for them to hang out ( basement or downstairs bathroom) they'll be fine as long as they have plenty of water and the house is kept dark.

no fans going, but it's dark and they have lots of water. I feel a little better, thank you all.

My cats like to hang out behind the toilet, apparently this is a very cool spot so if you left your bathroom door open, that may be where they'll go.

Yup.

My cats go outside and bake on the deck until their fur is literally hot to the touch, then they go under the deck to cool off.

MY cat does the same thing if she manages to get by me; lay out in the sun. Then she brings all the fleas inside with her.

Domestic house cats of today are decendents of the felines of Ancient Egypt; we all know that. It is in their genes to enjoy warm spaces; and if they feel like it; find water of course; and a cooler spot, if they want one. A cat's core body temp. is like 101 or something like that. "Cat people" help me out.....

I turned my window unit off Monday morning before I left for work; and when I got home Monday night the house was around 80 deg.; kitty kat was asleep on the floor in the hallway, and she was fine.
