Is MOM doing something good - possibly??

washingtonpost.com - nation, world, technology and Washington area news and headlines reports MOM wants Maryland to maintain a DNA database for convicted criminals...

I thought I heard this morning it was for all of "Maryland residents" but I guess I heard wrong; I got fired up for nothing until I could read the story :lol:

What are your thoughts on this proposal? Don't we already have a National Database, but I do not know what the criteria is for having your DNA placed in there.

As I understand it, it will be expanded to all MD residents charged or indited, not just those convicted.
Not all MD residents.

VA is going to follow Ohio with special bright-colored car plates for DUI convictions.

According to MOM:

The proposed expansion would require the collection of a DNA sample from individuals arrested for:

* abduction;
* arson in the first degree;
* burglary;
* kidnapping;
* manslaughter;
* mayhem;
* maiming;
* rape;
* robbery;
* carjacking;
* 1st and 2nd degree sexual offense;
* use of a handgun in commission of a felony or other violent crime;
* child abuse-1st degree;
* sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 13 by an adult;
* 1st degree assault;
* continuing course of conduct with a child;
* any attempts of the previously mentioned crimes.

As for the plates for DUI folk, my friends in Ohio refer to them as "Party Plates" and say that some people are "proud" of them.

Maybe I did hear right this morning... the TV was on and I was getting coffee, that is what prompted me to look the story up. I have seen anything concrete on this yet.

To answer the question in your title, Yes, hs is doing something good. Each day he gets that much closer to his own funeral.

I do not agree ......... not for indictments, only after conviction .... unless there is cause to believe the perp maybe involved in something else ..... once they are a ward of the state for any of the Above then tag em ............

I don't see a problem with it. It's no different than running their fingerprints when arrested. The precedent has been set, so why not?
