Is my kitten sick?

Hello again. I've posted a couple of things regarding potential vets in the area. Since I took the kitten to the vet last Monday and he received all his shots, I'm hoping he's ok. However, his eyes have semi-dried goop in them each day when I come home. Should I be concerned? He was just at the vets a week ago. He had a temp of 103, but they said it could be nerves since he was a stray for weeks and we had just caught him that day and taken him to the vet. He had ear mites, tape worms and fleas. He was treated for all of them. Could he just be adjusting? (please say yes--I've never had a cat before and I've grown so attached to him already. It's only been a week!)

Thanks!

My boy kitty had goopy eyes for a couple weeks when we first got him. The vet gave us some medicine and he was fine after that. :huggy:

Does my butt look big?
103 tells me he has an infection of some type probably a URI...take his temp at home ..I would put him on antibiotics..Shots on top of temp and URI makes for a sick kitty..good luck..

That's what I'm afraid of. Believe it or not, I don't have a thermometer. Perhaps I should take him to the vet tomorrow???

Paso is absolutely right, he probably does have a URI the goopy eyes are usually a good sign that they do. It would be a good idea to take him to the vet tomorrow and while your there ask what kind of a thermometer you can use and ask how to properly take a rectal temp. as you can hurt them if you don't know what your doing. Also ask what the normal temp. range is so you have a good idea on where his temp should be. Good Luck! :huggy:

Any old cheap thermometer will do..take his temp at home where he is NOT stressed to get a true temp...If over 102 I would then take him in...Is he eatting, playing and going to the bathroom normally..if so I would give him a day or so to see what happens..

Well, he's still pretty cautious around humans, but he was eating like a horse all last week. He's slowed down a bit, but still eating plenty and using the litter box frequently. He will play a bit, but is still shy. I guess I'll get a thermometer tomorrow and take your advice. I really don't want to put him through going to the vet again so soon. He's just starting to warm up to people. Thanks.

Thanks. My sister has cats/dogs/horses and knows how to take the temp, so I'll probably ask her to do it. Hope he's ok...

How old is he? A normal temperature for a kitten (unless a newborn or really young) is generally 102.5, so 103 isn't really high. He could have pink eye. I'd keep a close eye on him..as long as he's eating and drinking. Can you hear him breathing...is he rattling? If he was full of fleas, he could be anemic...fleas can really debilitate a small kitten.

If you're going to take his temp, I'd be sure to use a "rectal" thermometer.

Not real sure how old he is. Vet seems to think he has his adult teeth, so she said he's at least 5 months old. Thought I heard a bit of rattling when I first got home this evening, but haven't noticed it since then.

Then a 103 temp isn't all that high. Keep an eye on him as cats are pretty good at hiding their symptoms. As long as he's eating and drinking and using the litter box, I'd give him a few days and see how's he's doing. But you may want to call the vet about the goopy eyes, like I said earlier..it could be pink eye or an eye infection of some sort.

Yeah, or conjunctivitis, which is easy to treat.
