Is our Mall a safe place to shop?

Now that the Christmas shopping season is here, and it's gettng dark at 5:00 pm, I was wondering what others thought about this. Do you feel safe going to our Mall in the evening by yourself? Are there entrances and areas to stay away from at night? what does everyone think and what are your experiences?

Yes, St Charles

Yea, I guess I should have been more precise. I do mean the St. Charles Town Center Mall.

You could have bypassed the title question and gone right to "Are there entrances and areas to stay away from at night?" Although even then, you could have an easier time figuring which few areas are 'safe'.

I haven't been there in a long time (~2 years) and couldn't imagine going in today. No way. Last couple times I was there, there were some areas that felt relatively safe... but there were so many guards patrolling it felt like a prison.

Use the entrances at Sears and Macy's lower level as they have camera's. The one at the Food Court does not have a camera... I am not sure about the other entrances.

Use common sense and I would go with another person... police are starting to be out in greater numbers and their presence can definitely be seen.

At this time of year the crime level skyrockets at the mall with a lot of purse snatching, punks stealing what you bought in the parking lot, car jacking - for the most part it happens in the parking lot.

This was a step up by the management group to help push the trash that was frequenting the mall. Last few times I was up there, there was definitely a difference in the "crowd" that was in the mall.

They also dumped a bunch of money in the place last year renovating it and I think they are trying to change their reputation - so far, it seems to be working but like I said in my previous post I would not go alone after dark if I was a woman just for safety purposes.

Yes they have definately changed the malls appearance and have started cleaning up the thugs around there. The biggest issue is that parents dump their kids off so they have something to do and this results in a lot of hoodlums just walking and standing around with out buying crap.

I personally have never had a problem with St. Charles, and we go there quite often sometimes 2-3 times a month. If i want to go enjoy myself i will go to Arundel Mills, or Anapolis mall its worth the extra drive. My girls family goes to Iverson mall, i told them they are nuts, i dont even want to drive by that hell hole.

Give St. Charles another 5-6 years and it'll be about the same.

I've never had a problem there. It's also been years since I've been up there after dark. I hate driving after dark. I always go in the Kohl's entrance.

You know whats funny is I hear someone say this about every 5-6 years

I usually do sears up stairs. Kohl's is another good side.

Alot of people on here haven't been to the mall in years and they still bash it. Yeah its not the best mall but its not like people say it is with thugs waiting to rob you on every corner, even Iverson isnt that bad.

I normally park at Sears upstairs and enter there no matter what store I want to go to

I've not been there in 4 years and vowed that I would never go back after my teenage son and I witnessed a gang fight in the food court on a Saturday evening. If it hadn't been for my son's recognizing what was about to happen, we would have wound up in the middle of it all. So, IMO, no, it is not a safe place; inside or outside.
