Is Publishing The School Bus Schedule A Good Idea?

This past Friday, the Enterprise published an extensive school bus schedule. In this day and age, everyone has an email address and Internet abillity, even if you don't own a computer. You can go to your local library. If you don't own a car, STS will take you there. Is publishing the school bus schedule a good idea, or bad? What is your opinion and why?

What’s the difference from it being online and being in a newspaper? i dont see a problem with it

What the heck is wrong with it? Good grief.

Well I think its pretty much the only way some folks will know when their kid should be at the bus stop. Believe it or not, not everyone has home internet access or bothers to use public internet access.

I see where you're going with this though in terms of child safety but if a freak wants to grab a kid he doesn't need a schedule, he can just cruise around looking for kids.

I don't have a problem with them publishing the bus schedule. I was surprised that this year, my kids will be taking different bus in the morning than they ride in the afternoon. That's never happened before. Good thing the teacher monitors which kid goes on what bus in the afternoon or I could definitely see my youngest getting on the bus he rode in the morning instead.

Okay, but did you see the schedule? It gives the time the children will be there, age group and exact location. Real easy to case the area in advance. If that isn't handing children over on a sliver platter to a pedophile, I don't know what is. Plus, in this day of the Internet, everyone has email. For those that claim they don't, the schedule can be mailed to the REGISTERED parents/guardians. It would be very few that are mailed so it wouldn't be expensive. Bresmil is one of the few that caught on. Some folks see no harm in this. That's what they thought in Piney Point too.

 Overreact much? The bus schedule has been published in the paper for as long as I can remember but I have never seen a correlation between the bus schedules and an increase in cases of child abduction.

Like what was posted earlier, all someone would have to do is just cruise around searching, it's not like those big yellow buses are too hard to follow.

FYI - Bresamil is not the only one who "caught on" to what you're getting at.

I just think what you're getting at is weak. Perverts & pedophiles certainly don't need a bus schedule to know when & where children congregate for the bus once school is in session. Big yellow buses with "Calvert, St. Mary's, Charles County School Bus" printed on the side might be a dead giveaway. :coffee:

Its not that hard to locate a gaggle of kids standing on the corner anyway.

All good points from everyone. Thanks to all! As for "over reaction", hopefully it stays just that. I sure would by far, rather to over react than be right about my concern. By the way, in St. Mary's, last year there has been two accounts I know of where some one watched children and knew of their schedule. But, I would still be happy with over reacting and have nothing horrible occur. Fine with me. Thanks again!

I could sit in my front window for one week and watch the children coming & going and I would know their schedule(s). No newspapers involved.

Information is a bad thing?

When I checked the schedule something tweaked my memory. Upon further research I noticed one of the stops in my sons immediate area is that of a child sex offender. I notified the head of transportation. Information can be a good thing.

Look at all the cases of child abductions. It's always a single, maybe two children walking alone, never a whole bus stop full of kids. There is power in numbers. The ped wouldn't stand a chance of successfully targeting one child in a whole group. Too many witnesses.

Parents or supervised adults such as Daycare Providers are required to be at the bus stop when the bus come to pick kids up in the mornings and to take kids home when they gets off the bus. Schools send out letters reminding parents that they or supervised adult to be present at the bus stops, or the bus driver won't let the kid off the bus.

My kid's bus driver let them off if I was late getting to the bus stop. You can see our house from the bus stop though and she'd wait until she made sure they got into the house before she left.

My son's bus driver wouldn't drop him off and when I missed the bus stop by a minute, she took him back to school and him off at the school. I drove to the school and picked my son up. I feel much safer knowing that my son's bus driver WOULD NOT drop him off without me there at the bus stop.
