Thanks for all the help I got! :yay:

Dell thought they could be helpful and totally F'd up my computer!

I don't understand what I have done to you guys in here, but I have noticed that a lot of my posts and threads are being ignored lately. I guess it doesn't pay to be a nice guy around here! :drama:

Mousebaby,

Someone will answer. The weekend have been very nice weather out, and I think alot of forumites aren't online over the weekend.

I would help if I know anything about computers, but I don't.

Well the puter is toast! I have to reformat yet again! I think Dell should rename this computer from XPS to REFORMAT QUEEN! I have NEVER had so much trouble with a computer in my LIFE! I paid 3 x as much for this computer as I did my first laptop and that one is still running NO PROBLEMS! :tantrum:

I swear to God I will NEVER buy another top of the line computer again! If it isn't one dang thing it's another with this POS!!!

I have been running AVG free as told to do by other forumites, also COMODO firewall (also free) and spybot and Adaware! NOTHING WORKS FOR ME!!!! I still have a friggen virus! It has totally wiped out my ability to do a system restore and it will not even let me run msconfig for God's sake! :jameo: When I get this sucker up and running I am giving it to my 8 yr. old and I will take the cheap laptop that has never had a friggen problem! :tantrum:

Rant over, goodnight, I am exhausted!

Get a comprehensive Internet Security Suite from McAfee or ZoneAlarm. Firewall, virus protection, spyware, malware, pop-ups, theft protection, IM protection, parental control, etc. It should always be running when your computer is running and keep it updated. Also keep your operating system updated.

I can't stress enough smart browsing. Stop looking at sh*t you shouldn't be looking at and stop downloading sh*t you shouldn't be downloading. It isn't rocket science. And for the love of crap, stop letting your children browse the Internet unsupervised. If you can't mind your children while they're browsing, utilize the parental controls of the software.

I have used McAfee, Norton, Windows Live One Care, Trend Micro's PCcillin and a few others I can't think of right now. NONE of them have kept me from getting viruses. I do not go to any of those off the wall websites, like 123Greetings or that Freeze whatever place. I am very careful! I know my stuff for the most part. I NEVER download sh*t unless it has been recommended by someone else or if I buy it from a reputable place, like Dell! (What a joke that is)

And as for my children, my children don't surf the web unprotected I have a very tight reign on their surfing abilities. I seriously doubt my daughter is going to get in trouble on Barbie.com!

I don't know what I did to deserve this attack, I was just telling everyone my computer woe's. I have seen other people go off the deep end before and no one says a thing! I have been on this forum for over a yr. when do I get accepted??

Why did you purchase an XPS in the first place? It's more or less a high end laptop for gamers.

I got the gaming machine due to the fact that my son and I like to play online together with some of these games. I wanted to be able to keep up with the graphics and speed needed for some of the games. Not to mention it was pretty! :lmao:

Yeah, I am going to reformat and I tell you I will only go on here and check my mail from now on. I am sick of reformating! :ohwell:

Stop Downloading so much crap software, put back the factory settings, get trend micro or something with tech support, dont get that free stuff, NOTHING is free. As soon as you stop Downloading all this software that is supposed to "help" your computer you will be fine, you are probably picking up nasty stuff from the Download sites as well.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and doing a system restore? I saw an ugly one a few months ago that wouldn't let the restore process complete when you booted normally but in safe mode it was able to revert back and in turn get rid of the virus.

Viruses and spy wear are not the fault of hardware. They are the fault of jerks that think they are cool.

I put this advise on here before. Take it to heart. Password protect your computer. Make a limited user account and do all your surfing and email reading as that user. Only use the Administrator or account with administrator rights to install and de-install software and hardware. If you are logged on as a limited user, you will not have rights to modify the registry or system areas of the disk which is where viruses and spy wear install.

Gaming sites and peer to peer games where your computer acts as the host are notorious for virus infections. Never, ever, host a game as a server. You immediately open a hole through your firewall.

Horse hockey.

Linux is free and it beats the crap out of Windows. Open Office is free and it works great. WinClam AV is great. Spybot, especially the new version is fantastic especially if you enable teatimer. It monitors every registry change and asks for approval before allowing it.

Also when doing this, disconnect from the network. Many viruses reinfect the computer by downloading a new copy when one is zapped.
