Is there a bug going around?

Got a call from youngest's school last Friday to pick him up with a fever. Got the fever under control but he's had diarrhea for the last four days and on and off ear ache. Going to call the Pediatrician today because the OTC meds aren't working apparently. Just curious if there is a bug going around and there is an end in sight. Five days is nuts considering my kids are rarely sick. TIA.

Yep, been a few. I know strep was making the rounds. Gotta say, since my youngest left school, far less sickness in my house :)

We all know why.....parents send their sick kids to school to pass it on to someone else instead of keeping them home, hopefully after going to the doctor's office. Makes NO sense.

I understand there is a bug going around that wasn't expected. The first time I decide to get a flu shot in my life, and I'm not even covered. :ohwell:

Mine has been home since the Nurse called Friday morning. He's going to the Dr this afternoon so hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest, he'll be back in school.

Every person I know who gets the flu shot ends up with the flu. Never fails. I don't get them for me or the kids.

Not to be a smartazz, but there is always a bug going around. Neverending cycle.

I never get sick anymore, until I had a vendor at the house who had a cold. Not thinking, shook his hand when he was leaving. 2 days later I couldn't breath, a week later I was still spewing yellow snot.

I, at least partially, put the blame on the school system. They give awards for perfect attendance so it actually encourages students to got to school sick.

Most viruses are contagious BEFORE the kid has symptoms and can continue to be contagious after they feel better. Keeping your kid home so that no one else will get sick ever is an excerise in futilty. Good hand hygiene is far more ikely to be useful than keeping a kid home for two weeks because they have a cold they likely were exposed to at the same time as everyone else anyway. Don't send them to school ill because its uncomfortable to them and inhibits their healing, not because you're worried about anyone else.

Verdict is in... Strep! I had no idea that a symptom of strep is diarrhea or we would have taken him in sooner. Just thought it was a stomach bug. Another day off school per Dr's orders tomorrow.

Hope he feels better soon. Co-worker took her daughter in to the place in Charlotte Hall over the weekend. Told her nothing but a virus. Few days later, still no better and still running a fever. Took her to the pediatrician and it turns out she had strep. Her kids have been misdiagnosed in the past and ended up with Scarlett Fever.

Son came home early Monday because he threw up. He had a headache (which would explain why he asked me if *I* had one when I got home).
Then bragged to his sisters that he had diarrhea (he thinks it's cool).
It's Wednesday and he's fine. So, yeah, probably a bug - but when I sent him to school Monday, he seemed totally normal.

I get the flu shot every year and haven't gotten the flu in a long time. Flu shots work. I know folks that got this flu, chills, fever, strep throat, etc. it pretty much sucks.
