Is there a gun range around here?

... Go with Federal Hydra-Shok, Jacketed Hollow Points, or if you are feeling like Dirty Harry, Speer Golddot +P ammo. DO NOT PUT THOSE HOT LOADS LIKE THE SPEER IN A CHEAP GUN!!
...
The cheap Hi-Point pistols claim to be rated for +P+ 9mm.
The pistols sell for about $180 brand new.

Think about it, active school shooting. ( god forbid ) deputies get called to the school. You are the first to arrive. You reach in your trunk and pull out a shotgun. The attacker is still moving through the hallways, he has an AK or an AR. Max EFFECTIVE range on that shotgun is going to be maybe 100 yards. Then you can't call the pattern of the pellets. BUT YOUR A$$ as a Sheriff's Deputy is directly responsible for each one!
Now switch to a rifle. ( I don't care which one, pick one ) Now you can meet the attacker FORCE ON FORCE, and hit him, hopefully, from range, before he can hurt anymore people.

That may be the reason, and if that isn't, I can think of plenty more. :coffee:
OVER-PENETRATION, eiiinnnnt.... try again.

I'm calling :bs: on this. I was almost certain that the Sheriffs department uses slugs in their shotguns (any sort of buckshot risks having a bad pattern and hitting an innocent civilian)....AND...I also know that as of a couple months ago at least...they were still carrying them...so what exactly is ya'lls source that they stopped carrying shotties in their vehicles?

You be the judge. Not trying to answer for him but I do know in Calvert that almost all "patrol shotguns" have been replaced with "patrol rifles" that came from that program that police depts. have with the army to turn old service weapons into police patrol rifles.

all I know is that GF's dad is a corporal for the St. mary's sheriffs and he was still packin a shotgun, but that was towards the end of the summer so they could have switched over after that...I just like seeing a source when hearing information about that or it is hard to believe...

EDIT:

and for the record, I wasn't doubting the penetration of a slug...just the fact that the police don't even use them because I find it VERY hard to believe that they use(d) a round that has a decently enough random spread and less stopping power...BUT, I don't have a positive source for that, just my view on it and what I believe i've heard before

May be true, like I said I don't know about St. Mary's. I am sure they still keep shotguns as one of there tools none the less. Here is an article that pertains to the topic here. Pretty short read by a LEO.

Those handguns are a POS.... I used to sell those to the Homie thug gang bangers at the shooting Range I worked at in Richmond.

They would come in, with $250 wanting to buy a Glock. :lmao: Id show them to the special counter with handguns more in their price range.

Of course being the salesmen I was, I never told them that they were crap. Prone to Jam alot, break firing pins and recoil springs. Not to mention how inaccurate they were.

Shotgun - hands down...

You (or I) would be so damn nervous with an intruder you would be shaking in your shoes. With a shotgun, all you have to do is point it in the general direction and pull the trigger!

My shotgun the first shell is steel shot #4, slug, steel shot #4, slug... in a semi-auto 12 Guage
I understand the Combat Load - mine used to be 3" Mag 00 Buck then 2 3/4 slug 3" Mag 00 Buck .... etc .......

But my daughter sleeps on the other side of the house across the dinning room ... so not it is Skeet shot all the way ...... beside the dinning room is 10-12 ' the skeet shot has little time to spread and will turn a Felons chest to mush ..... IMHO

FYI I also have the buck shot and slug rounds on a sling that hangs from the shottie

This was a good read.

Apparently officers use both slugs and 00 Buckshot depending on the situation. Which makes sense, and is pretty much the only scattershot I'd have expected the police to use, maybe one more size smaller but nothing with ANY more pellets than that. (At least I wouldn't expect).

according to this at least, I'd suspect that the St. Mary's County Sheriff's office still deploys shotguns to some officers, but it is also not guaranteed I suppose.

Either way, learned something new and got my theories backed by this reading

Yeah, but they have a lifetime warranty. If the firing pin breaks, jams a lot or break a recoil spring....send it back.
Unconditional lifetime warranty.
I have heard stories where someone got a terrible lemon that looked like it was made by Chinese villagers in teh middle of a war, but when they sent it back with a complaint, then got back an entirely new one that was in perfect shape.
If it is true it can take +P+ 9mm, then it might be an interesting toy to play with. Besides, if it wears out the handgun in just a few years from using such hot ammo.........send it back.

If your life depended on it would you carry one for protection?

I wouldnt. Nor would I buy one to plink with:whistle:

If I owned one I was comfortable with, then yes, but I would not buy one to use as carry protection though because of the reputation alone.
However, if I was one of those people that cannot afford to spend a lot on a handgun and needed one for home protection, then it is a good choice IMO.
However with my C&R license I have many cheap options to choose from that are better than a new Hi Point. I am thinking of other people on a budget or are poor.
I would carry a $120 fifty five year old CZ52 or 70 year old $70 Nagant revolver before I carried a new Hi Point I did not know is in good working order yet.
Nor would I buy one to plink with:whistle:
I would buy one as a toy and maybe, who knows, might luckily get one made well enough to be accurate.
Also might be a good extra home defense gun or a good trunk gun or under the seat gun (if I lived in a state where that was legal) because if it gets rusty or corroded.....send it back.

That does nothing for me. any woman that carries her handgun like that, deserves to have her cooter accidentally shot off.
I guess you guys don't like any movies with guns in it either then?? It is an ad and suppose to look sexy I guess, I am sure Life, Liberty, ect... doesn't advocate "mexican carry" as they seemed like pretty squared away folks.

Anyway if she does shoot it off, can I have it????

Thanks. I appreciate it. If he read the prior posts, he would pick up that " I NEVER SAID ANYONE SWITCHED OUT". I was merely stating that IF some departments have/had, I could understand why. Liability issues....

Anywho....
