Isaiah 27:1 In that day,
the Lord will punish with his sword—
his fierce, great and powerful sword—
Leviathan the gliding serpent,
Leviathan the coiling serpent;
he will slay the monster of the sea.
his fierce, great and powerful sword—
Leviathan the gliding serpent,
Leviathan the coiling serpent;
he will slay the monster of the sea.
2 In that day—
“Sing about a fruitful vineyard:
3 I, the Lord, watch over it;
I water it continually.
I guard it day and night
so that no one may harm it.
4 I am not angry.
If only there were briers and thorns confronting me!
I would march against them in battle;
I would set them all on fire.
5 Or else let them come to me for refuge;
let them make peace with me,
yes, let them make peace with me.”

6 In days to come Jacob will take root,
Israel will bud and blossom
and fill all the world with fruit.
Israel will bud and blossom
and fill all the world with fruit.
7 Has the Lord struck her
as he struck down those who struck her?
Has she been killed
as those were killed who killed her?
8 By warfare[a] and exile you contend with her—
with his fierce blast he drives her out,
as on a day the east wind blows.
9 By this, then, will Jacob’s guilt be atoned for,
and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:
When he makes all the altar stones
to be like limestone crushed to pieces,
no Asherah poles[b] or incense altars
will be left standing.
10 The fortified city stands desolate,
an abandoned settlement, forsaken like the wilderness;
there the calves graze,
there they lie down;
they strip its branches bare.
11 When its twigs are dry, they are broken off
and women come and make fires with them.
For this is a people without understanding;
so their Maker has no compassion on them,
and their Creator shows them no favor
as he struck down those who struck her?
Has she been killed
as those were killed who killed her?

12 In that day the Lord will thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, Israel, will be gathered up one by one. 13 And in that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
a. Isaiah 27:8 See Septuagint; the meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain.
b. Isaiah 27:9 That is, wooden symbols of the goddess Asherah

“Leviathan” is a symbolic monster also referred to here as “that crooked serpent … the dragon,” or Satan. The context indicates that Isaiah has in view the final victory of God over Satan (Rev. 20:2). The prophet then bursts into a joyful song of the “vineyard” (Israel) of the Lord (Isaiah 5:1-7).
Now the vineyard will succeed because “I the Lord do keep it.” The wandering Israelites will now “take root” and will “blossom and bud” during the kingdom age when all the nations will come up to Jerusalem to worship the Lord.
This is similar to the olives that were harvested in another lesson. God will harvest (beat off), His people. This appears, to me, as the harvest of souls at the trump of God. Individual Israelites will go to be with Him. That is what is meant by one by one.
Remember one more time; this can be the physical house of Israel and the spiritual house of Israel. Salvation is one at a time. Egypt symbolizes the world.
This is the final gathering of spiritual Israel into the church. Physical Israel is coming back to the Holy Land today. God is preparing His church for the sound of the trumpet, also. All of this is speaking of the time when the Christians will be called to worship in that heavenly Jerusalem.
It will not matter what denomination they belonged to, or how wealthy they are, or even if they are of the physical, or the spiritual house. They will be called as individuals out of every nation and every kindred. This would be the day of the LORD.
This is from enduringword.com.Has He struck Israel as He struck those who struck him: The LORD shows His mercy to Israel, in that even though the LORD struck Israel when Israel went astray, He did not strike Israel as severely as He did the other nations that went astray.
The iniquity of Jacob will be covered: The LORD shows His mercy to Israel in that He covers their sin. This is ultimately fulfilled in the Kingdom of the Messiah when all Israel will be saved (Romans 11:26).
When He makes all the stones of the altar like chalkstones that are beaten to dust: The LORD shows His mercy to Israel in that He destroys their idolatrous altars and images, forcing them to worship the LORD only.
The habitation forsaken and left like a wilderness: The city of man, the world system, will be made so desolate that it will resemble a wilderness with bare branches, useful only for fire.
You will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel: The LORD will be worshipped by His own regathered people. They will come from the nations (Assyria… Egypt), and they will come to worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
I knew a trumpet player. He passed away a few years ago. He was my ex-husband's father. He was an entertainer. He played trumpet and the organ in a bar in Ocean City.... as a matter of fact. He was also a high school band teacher in Baltimore County and occasionally he was a choir leader in a local church.... that didn't last long. Blowing a trumpet is not a simple as it seems. Come to think of it, blowing a trumpet so loud that everyone hears it.... as in verse 13.... that has to be a purely Godly blast. Spring cleaning use to be a big deal in my mom's house. Of course spring cleaning could come any time in mom's house.... but I have to admit... I always loved the smell and the feel of mom's clean house. Of course I was the one who wiped down every wall, window, and floor. I was the one who polished every piece of furniture with pledge and I was the one who took every knick-knack off of every shelf to dust and polish them before putting them back. All the cushions were taken outside and beaten until they smelled fresh again. All the linens and drapes were taken to the wash, ironed and replaced. When it was done.... the place sparkled.... and I have to admit.... I always felt a sense of accomplishment. [Oh my sister got the bathroom.... one room that I did not like.... lol.... it always was my sister's job to clean the bathroom.... lol].
When the trumpet blasts on that day..... God will be letting us know the "cleaning" is done.... all the fake idols and tiny shiny gods will be turned to dust by the horrific earthquake Isaiah was talking about. It will be safe now.... the temptation of other people's gods will be gone. I cannot imagine how severe an earthquake has got to be to crush statues, poles, and beads to dust. I won't miss Molech at all...... I'll be glad to see that monster statue turned to dust so no more babies can be laid on it to sizzle while humans sing.
