Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.
5 Strangers will shepherd your flocks;
foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
6 And you will be called priests of the Lord,
you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth of nations,
and in their riches you will boast.
7 Instead of your shame
you will receive a double portion,
and instead of disgrace
you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit a double portion in your land,
and everlasting joy will be yours.
8 “For I, the Lord, love justice;
I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people
and make an everlasting covenant with them.
9 Their descendants will be known among the nations
and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
that they are a people the Lord has blessed.”
10 I delight greatly in the Lord;
my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness
and praise spring up before all nations.

In this chapter Isaiah introduces the King who will rule in the glorious kingdom he has just described. After Jesus read from this passage (Luke 4:17-21), in the synagogue, He said “This day is this scripture fulfilled in yours ears”.
The “me” on whom the “Spirit of the Lord God” rests is Christ, the One who God has “anointed … to preach good tidings” (good news), and to “proclaim liberty.” When Jesus quoted this passage, He stopped at this point, indicating that the “day of vengeance” (final judgment), had not yet come.
“The spirit … acceptable year of the Lord”: The servant of the Lord, will be the ultimate Preacher and the Redeemer of Israel who rescues them. Jesus speaks of the initial fulfillment of this promise, referring it to His ministry of providing salvation’s comfort to the spiritually oppressed (Luke 4:18-19).
He says specifically, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21). The Jews that were saved during Christ’s ministry, and those being saved during this church age, still do not fulfill the promise of the salvation of the nation to come in the end time (Zech. 12:10-13:1; Romans 11:25-27).
For all her suffering, Israel is promised a “double” blessing from God. Thus God reaffirms His “everlasting covenant” with them. The chapter concludes with a song of praise to the Lord. The “garments of salvation” and the “robe of righteousness” are synonymous and refer to salvation itself. They are paralleled with the garments of a bridegroom and a bride.
A long long time ago.... I told a youth group about a dream I had..... Jesus and God were working in a lab.... the earth was suspended before them.... as if it was just being assembled. God said to Jesus..... "you know you're going to have to go down there"..... Jesus replied.... "yep"....... God said to Jesus.... you know they are going to attack you".... Jesus replied "yep"..... God said to Jesus..... "You know they are going to hang you on a cross"..... Jesus replied "yep"..... God asked Jesus... "Are you sure you want to do this?".... Jesus said.... "If I don't who can? If I don't who will? I'm looking forward to it.... Now let's finish up so we can get this plan in motion"I like to think of God and Jesus working together building the universes. I like to think of God and Jesus working together..... creating earth, plants, birds, animals, and humans. I like to think of God visiting earth..... to talk with the humans.... how cool to have a talking creation to give a unique opinion on everything..... but then the humans started to die. They ate something they shouldn't have and they started to die. The plan was put into action before they ate something bad.... Jesus didn't go down there and walk with Adam and Eve..... it wasn't His time yet. I figure God designed the trip from Heaven to Eden.... to go from Godly to walking with humans required molecular manipulation for sure...... God figured out how to walk on earth that He created so Jesus could come to teach and heal... I figure God figured out how to walk on earth that He created so Jesus could come to earth, experience a horrible death, and then make an antidote for the humans from that experience.
Jesus will come to earth twice..... once to teach, heal, and conquer death.... then Jesus will return to wipe out the wicked and set humans up in an idyllic life without temptation.... so humans would be able to enjoy having a living God without a naysayer dogging them.
These verses are about the first trip..... when people learned to love one another.... take care of one another.... teach and heal one another..... and to tell others about what is coming next.....
I'm pretty sure Jesus was chomping at the bit to get to earth.... and get that part done so He could get the antidote for His humans. I'm pretty sure God was holding Him back until it was His time.... according to the plan..... and then when God said.... ok now it's time.... Jesus was happy to do His work...... so that the humans would be released from the horror of death and dying.
I'm terminal.... I don't mind.... because Jesus released me.
