Isaiah 62:1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her vindication shines out like the dawn,
her salvation like a blazing torch.
2 The nations will see your vindication,
and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name
that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.
3 You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 No longer will they call you Deserted,
or name your land Desolate.
But you will be called Hephzibah,[a]
and your land Beulah[b];
for the Lord will take delight in you,
and your land will be married.

5 As a young man marries a young woman,
so will your Builder marry you;
as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,
so will your God rejoice over you.
6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the Lord,
give yourselves no rest,
7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth.
8 The Lord has sworn by his right hand
and by his mighty arm:
“Never again will I give your grain
as food for your enemies,
and never again will foreigners drink the new wine
for which you have toiled;
9 but those who harvest it will eat it
and praise the Lord,
and those who gather the grapes will drink it
in the courts of my sanctuary.”
10 Pass through, pass through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!
Remove the stones.
Raise a banner for the nations.
11 The Lord has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth:
“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your Savior comes!
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.’”
12 They will be called the Holy People,
the Redeemed of the Lord;
and you will be called Sought After,
the City No Longer Deserted.

This chapter outlines the conditions that are preparatory to the deliverance of Zion and the establishment of Christ’s kingdom. “Righteousness” and “salvation” will burst forth as a light upon the “Gentiles”. Moreover, the Gentiles will not merely observe this light, but will receive it. Israel will change so radically that she will “be called by a new name.”
“Never hold their peace … give him no rest”: The prophets of Israel issued constant warnings about lurking enemies and prayed for Jerusalem to be “a praise”. There will be more prophets in the kingdom who continually proclaim the honor of the Lord.
“The Lord hath sworn”: The end of foreign domination over Jerusalem is as certain as the oath of God.
We are promised that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. We are sons of God. We are family.

Foreign nations will think seriously about God’s actions on behalf of the people from Judah
· In the Bible, a ‘name’ refers to a person’s character. But a ‘new name’ means that the Lord will bring about a change in the character of the inhabitants of Judah. Such a change will also mean a new relationship with the Lord.
The two names ‘Alone’ and ‘Empty’ express what the inhabitants of Judah thought about themselves. In Isaiah 49:14-23 and 54:6-7, the inhabitants of Judah complained that the Lord had left them ‘alone’. And that enemies had ruined the land. They had left it ‘empty’ of crops and fruit trees.
· But the Lord has completely changed that situation. The Lord uses new names in picture language to describe a new relationship between him and his people. ‘Hephzibah’ and ‘Beulah’ are words in the people’s Hebrew language.
In ancient times, official look-outs stood on city walls. Their duty was vital. It was to warn the inhabitants when any danger approached. Or to signal urgent messages to another city. In this verse, ‘look-outs’ is picture language for people who send urgent messages to God by prayer. They want him to carry out his promises for Jerusalem’s wonderful future.
· God’s intention is that people will know his power. It is only God’s work that makes it possible for people to rebuild Jerusalem. But many inhabitants of Jerusalem had a more selfish attitude. They wanted other nations to see what a splendid city they themselves had built.
The name ‘Holy Nation’ means that the people in Judah will be different from other people. The holy Lord God has chosen them in particular to serve him in a special way.
I do believe this has to do with relationship change. I think relationship change scares most people away from Salvation. Humans are really afraid of relationship changes. Relationships are constantly changing.... but humans don't handle change well. A baby will grow use to the arms of its mother and cry when a stranger is holding them..... but.... once the baby becomes accustomed to the new arms.... that same baby will change its feelings and begin a relationship with that other person.

I was raised to believe the descendants of Jacob [Israel] were different than me..... after all descendants of Jacob [Israel] don't believe in Jesus. When I was a kid.... I was taught by the church that I could only marry people who attend the Baptist Church regularly. Those other people would lead me astray. I was taught, by the church, that I could only marry a good man of European descent because to do otherwise would be mingling the races. I was raised that way.... because that's the way it was..... of course there was still prayer in the public schools when I was growing up. The Fonz was not good enough for me..... he was a hood.... see where I'm going?????

Isaiah says that all the nations will be together in one city..... and apparently we're all going to get along..... after all we will be one big happy family.....

A couple days ago I read about the "bride" and marriage. I don't think marriage today is anything like marriage in the Bible. Today.... if people get married at all.... they can undo it by spending a few shiny little idols at the local courthouse and get out of it. I compared marriage to marinating..... and this chapter seems to make that ring true. In a real marriage..... people change.... they learn to work together.... they learn to see things from a different viewpoint.

Humans like to be the center of attention.... in a marriage... the center of attention changes. Hubby is always telling me how wonderful I am.... I keep telling him that we are a "mutual admiration" society. Noah and his three sons were the only ones left after the flood. Those three sons were responsible for populating the planet. Shem was the son who became the great great great whatever grandfather of Jesus..... Ham and Japheth became the other nations. Shem's people ran Ham out of Canaan. Ham had a curse put on him for saying or doing something Noah didn't like..... and Japheth.... well Japhepth's people were european.... like Hitler......[and me]..... Isaiah says that when Jesus returns.... All the descendants of the sons of Noah who believe in Jesus the Christ.... will live together in Jerusalem in harmony...... and because we are all getting along.... we will get new names.... and Jerusalem will have a new name.... and that is part of the plan.

I never liked the name Beulah. I guess I could get use to it.... I guess I will get use to it.... if that's the name I'm given... and I'll like it because after all... it'll be Heaven!
