Islam Will "Conquer" Rome, Europe...?

(Excerpt, from the Jerusalem Post)

“… in a sermon televised on Friday, Yunis al-Astal, a Hamas MP and cleric, told worshipers that Islam would soon conquer Rome, "the capital of the Catholics, or the Crusader capital, which has declared its hostility to Islam, and which has planted the brothers of apes and pigs in Palestine in order to prevent the reawakening of Islam," just as Constantinople was.

Rome, he said, would become "an advanced post for the Islamic conquests which will spread through Europe in its entirety, and then will turn to the two Americas, and even Eastern Europe."

In his address aired on Hamas's Al-Aksa TV and also translated by MEMRI, Astal told his audience: "Allah has chosen you for himself and for his religion, so that you will serve as the engine pulling this nation to the phase of succession, security, and consolidation of power, and even to conquests through da'wa [preaching] and military conquests of the capitals of the entire world."

"I believe that our children or our grandchildren will inherit our jihad and our sacrifices, and Allah willing, the commanders of the conquest will come from among them. Today, we instill these good tidings in their souls, and by means of the mosques and the Koran books, and the history of our prophet, his companions, and the great leaders, we prepare them for the mission of saving humanity from the hellfire on the brink of which they stand."’

Didn't the Pope (and, by association, Catholics as a collective) officially "make nice" with Islam last year?

I could'a sword they did - and we had some lively discussion about it in here.

Sure did. However, of late Pope B16 not only made the dig at Islam at the scholars conference he also objected to Turkey being in the EU, very publically baptized an Islamic convert to Christianity on Easter last month, and will pray at Ground Zero while in NY. Everything the Pope says or does garners worldwide attention, and this is the Vatican's way of giving Islam the finger.

Essentially, they're workin' it on both fronts. :yay:

I don't know anything about the scholars conference, but the other ones sound like kind of a stretch to be considered "giving the finger" to Islam.

There may be political or other reasons for objecting to Turkey being in the EU. I know very little about this, and care even less.

Winning converts is a guilty pleasure for every religion... and it wasn't like he baptized the convert publicly during Ramadan in Mecca or something. Easter is a Christian Holiday - the CENTRAL Christian holiday, in fact. Who gives a #### if he baptizes a new Christian on Easter? It sounds more appropriate, than inappropriate to me.

And I hardly consider praying at Ground Zero to be a diss.

The mighty Al-Sonsie!
Broadcast on official Hamas television (Al Aqsa TV) April 11, 2008, Hamas member of Parliament Yunis Al-Astal explains that the destruction of the Jews is just a precursor to Islam’s conquest of the entire world.

Here is a link to the actual broadcast with translation.

Yunis Al-Astal: Allah has chosen you for Himself and for His religion, so that you will serve as the engine pulling this nation to the phase of succession, security, and consolidation of power, and even to conquests thorough da’wa and military conquests of the capitals of the entire world. Very soon, Allah willing, Rome will be conquered, just like Constantinople was, as was prophesized by our Prophet Muhammad. Today, Rome is the capital of the Catholics, or the Crusader capital, which has declared its hostility to Islam, and has planted the brothers of apes and pigs in Palestine in order to prevent the reawakening of Islam – this capital of theirs will be an advanced post for the Islamic conquests, which will spread through Europe in its entirety, and then will turn to the two Americas, and even Eastern Europe.

I believe that our children or our grandchildren will inherit our Jihad and our sacrifices, and Allah willing, the commanders of the conquest will come from among them. These are the same folks Carter is currently knob bobbin' on.....

ON EDIT: Sorry Starman, didn't see your link to the MEMRI translation above.

Radical muslims reacted to the statement with violence; hence, proving the Pope's very statement/point about violence in Islam, the international news coverage it got was a wake up call to the more complacent.

Of course there are reasons, and after reading that statement by Yunis al-Astal you should care.

Of course it was appropriate, and the fact that the Pope did it made international news coverage essentially placing the convert as a model for other Muslims who wish to leave Islam but are hampered by death threats.

And I hardly consider praying at Ground Zero to be a diss.

I think maybe you need to pay more attention to the subtleties of international political moves. I, for one, will be interested in what his prayer consists of while there.

My point to all this is simply that the Vatican is not rolling over playing dead when it comes to Islam's desire to rule the West. I, for one, don't want to live under shariah law, do you? :patriot:

John Paul II made no apologies throughout his pontificate, either. I'm sure B16 does not have the same gifts JPII did, but I think you might be quite right about very carefully worded speeches, etc. Kinda makes me think of St. Thomas More who very much wanted to keep the peace with Henry VIII, but found himself forced into a corner when the king wanted to extend his authority beyond the pope's in matters of the church.
I do not think the pope is afraid of anything Islam might threaten for two reasons: his deep faith in the Lord, and the promise of Christ that "the gates of hell will not prevail against it"[the church].
I don't know anything about the doctrines of Islam, but if there is a massive conversion, either forced or willingly, it will never wipe Christianity out completely. I suppose it's possible that our faith may have to be practiced underground like in Rome of the first few centuries, or China today.
