As a hardcore PC gamer, 3 mbps is no longer cutting it. I don't want to dedicate two days to downloading a game anymore. I just don't.
Problem is, I can't seem to find any services in my area besides Verizon and Comcast in the Ranch Club.
Besides the low maximum speed, I have been extremely happy with Verizon. It's been incredibly stable for the 7 years I've been using it. I have not had to even use CS. I think I've had two outages ever, and that was just a brief loss of service, which immediately was restored.
I know how cable internet works (bandwidth is shared between local residents) and that frightens me. Does anyone in or around the Ranch Club have experience with Comcast's internet? Is it reliable? Does it provide speeds above 8 mbps during rush hour, even when rated at 25?
I unfortunately am unable at this time to determine whether I qualify for a higher "tier" of Verizon DSL, as I don't pay the bill and don't have access to account services. I intend to take over the bill upon "switching" or upgrading. We started using Verizon back when phone services weren't required for internet, but apparently you must switch to Verizon phone service if you are eligible for the upgraded speed. While the internet fee itself will not increase, we have a grandfathered plan with ATT (sans caller ID) for a single-digit fee. Using Verizon's phone service would basically be the price increase, and a significant one at that.
Comcast seems like a better deal, and boy do the speeds *look* appealing, but just how reliable is it around here?
