The overtly political boycott campaign against Fox News host Laura Ingraham has managed to pick off a dozen of her 129 advertisers. But the left-wing campaign isn't going unchallenged. Backlash against companies caving to the demands of gun control activist David Hogg and his allies in Media Matters is picking up steam online.
Last week, Ingraham raised Hogg's ire by describing him as "whining" about not getting into four California colleges. The ubiquitous student activist, who has made a name for himself in part by his vicious attacks on his political enemies, responded to Ingraham's mildly critical tweet by calling on the forces of the Left to mount yet another advertising boycott campaign. Media Matters, who has declared perpetual "war" against Fox News, was happy to help Hogg and his followers take down another Fox host. Though Ingraham apologized Thursday for her tweet, Hogg & co. aren't relenting, ramping up the pressure into the weekend while Ingraham announced she's taking a week off.

As The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh highlights, the Left's campaign against Ingraham is egregiously phony. "This is all an elaborate charade. Ingraham's petty little tweet about David Hogg didn't hurt, offend, upset, or otherwise cause any sort of damage to anyone. Least of all to David Hogg himself, who, as he's since made exceedingly clear, is grateful for the chance it afforded him to do some damage to a woman he despises," writes Walsh. "The Left is just playing the game, and this is the way the game works. Somebody says something offensive or 'offensive,' and the opportunists who reside on the opposite end of the political spectrum immediately grab ahold of it and squeeze it dry like a sponge."
But as the #IStandWithLaura folks are making clear, two can play at the boycott game. Will the pro-Ingraham boycott successfully shame the caving companies into re-upping with her show? Probably not, or at least probably not soon, but even some over at the network that has gone all in on promoting Hogg and his fellow activists are starting to get a little uneasy about the whole boycott thing.
