Matthew 5:21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister[b][c] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[d] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
This part of the chapter is titled "murder". But it's about how we need to get along with others. Right?Jesus is still teaching "Love God and Love one another".
God wants all His children to get along.
If you aren't Loving One Another.... well then you need to be set in a corner like Denise the Menace until you learn how to get along.
Have you borrowed money from your friend? Did you pay it back? You have to give them back their money because they were kind enough to lend you their money or their time [in the cases of wages due].... and you need to be kind enough to keep your word to them. You said you would repay them.... but you are holding their money.... while you go play rich guy at church.
We see someone murdering or raping or devastating someone and we say nothing.... it's not our problem, we say...... is that Love?
This isn't just about murder.... this is about egomania..... this is about detachment.... this is about thinking your poop stinks less than anyone else's.
Jesus would ask you.... "why aren't you Loving God and Loving your neighbor?" Would you respond with "it doesn't concern me"?
