It irks me when people mispronounce Kamala's name

Rhymes with "Mom-ala".

Relax, I'm not voting for that goob or getting all woke - this always aggravates me when anyone does it. There was a person in my friend group years ago, her name was Dana - pronounced "Dan-a", Dan with an a at the end. This other woman in our group always called her "Day-na" even after she'd been corrected. Used to drive me crazy.

I'm guessing this peeve is because I don't care for passive aggression. Either go after someone or STFU - don't half-ass it.

Trump, to his credit, pronounces her name correctly; Joe Biden mispronounced it three different ways when he was freaking announcing her as his VP and continued to do so. In fact, whenever I hear her name being mispronounced it's typically a Dembot doing it.

Are they just stupid or is it a petty show of disrespect and passive-aggression against someone they know isn't qualified to be in a position of authority?

I have two daughters and their names aren't easy to "figure out". At our dentist, their charts have a phonetic spelling so they pronounce it right. I commend the staff for doing that.

But we have friends who've known them for over a decade and STILL pronounce it wrong. I know it's not on purpose - they're just - oblivious. And they don't get that kids ARE bothered by people who pronounce it wrong.

I had a niece (who passed away, sadly, thirty years ago) and her name was Alissa. Not unheard of NOW, but in the 70's and early 80;s it was unusual and she got used to being called Melissa even after repeated corrections.

Some people just don't get it.

They need a punch in the head. Typically when one is introduced to someone, their name is spoken and pronounced correctly.

Me: Henrietta, this is my friend Sam.
Henrietta: Hi Sam!
Sam: Nice to meet you, Henrietta.

She's not going to go, "Hi George!" and if she does you say, "No, it's Sam." If she continues to refer to you as George, she's being a passive-aggressive ass. It's not like she saw it written first and got "George" in her head - the name was spoken when you were introduced so she didn't even look at "Siame" and wonder how to pronounce it.

To someone who deliberately mispronounces your name, you are not worth remembering and they want to make sure you know that. Which is fine if that's their intent, just be honest about it. An outright insult can be amusing if done correctly; cloaked insults with feigned innocence not so much.

Omg you watched CNN earlier this week didn’t you vrai? There was a panelist on there that got into a heated discussion with another panelist because he pronounced Kamila’s name wrong by mistake. But really, how can we get it right when we hear our own president screw it up?

The bots did that before - tried to say mispronouncing Kamala was....wait for it.....RACIST!!! Got taken out by vid of their own Joe Biden calling her everything from Camel-a to Carmella.

Even now they're trying to play on words with "Kamelot", which mispronounces her name in a freaking campaign slogan FOR her. :banghead:

Back in the 80’s my purse was stolen, including my paycheck. Had a stop payment put on it and got a new check. About a week later, I received a call from some foreign dude at a check cashing place wanting his money back. Since he was foreign, he had a REALLY bad command of the English language. The mispronouncing of my first and then last name was downright epic! Old friends and family still on occasion refer to me as such. :lmao:
