Mark 4:26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
I think Jesus is still explaining our "Understanding" upgrade.
Did you ever go back and read verse 11 the other day? Did you go back and read it yesterday? Well, I think it's important again today. I'm not being philosophical; I'm saying this is part of the same parable.
Seeds were scattered everywhere in the first part of this fourth chapter of Mark. I think Mark, who we would meet later in the Book of Acts, as John Mark a cohort of Paul, was struck by this Understanding upgrade too. He's still recording the scenario of the seed parable.
Check out verse 27. It says, "the seed sprouts and grows, though he doesn't know how". The man who scattered the seeds doesn't understand how seeds sprout and grow. He just threw down some seeds and they do their own thing. When the plant is ripe with plush grain, he harvests it. It doesn't require understanding or interpretation. It just happens.
We don't know how our testimony will be received. We don't know if someone will find Salvation. We don't know if someone "gets it". We don't know if an innocent bystander hears our testimony and receives Salvation. it just happens.
Back when I was in about the 6th grade, a teacher filled up two full chalk boards solving for pi. It's a staggering thought, no matter how hard you try, it's apparently impossible to get a simple answer for pi. After a full class section, the teacher turned around and said something I have not forgotten.
"This, young men and women, is one of those situations where it is good to say, "It works, don't try to fix it!"
We don't know how or why some humans choose to accept Salvation. We don't know how or why some humans understand quicker than others. We don't know how or why some humans reject Salvation. It's not up to us to know. God's in control of how plants grow from seed to produce seed. He created the process. He knows how it works, and it does indeed work, so don't try to fix it.
It works. Don't try to fix it.
