It's finally over

Thank goodness this school year is over. I have never been so stressed in my life. This online schooling has been quite the battle between my youngest and I. Unless it was a class he enjoyed, he wouldn't do the work.

I nag, I yelled, and I threatened. Son seemed completely clueless that the 4th quarter really was a "make or break" thing ( which is complete BS by the way). I kept telling him that even though he got A's and B's the first three quarters, if he got an Incomplete in the 4th, he wouldn't get credit for the class.

Finally yesterday (the last day to submit work) he got his head out of his butt and did the work. He literally did assignments in two classes from 1pm-8pm and then did a Hail Mary assignment at 11pm just to make sure he got the required percentage.

I am happy to say that he officially passed all classes except Art which I told him I didn't care because the other classes were more important. Art teacher said they'd have make up assignments in the Summer . Or since he only needs one Fine Arts credit to graduate, he can take Art again his Junior or Senior year.

Ugh, I'm so glad mine were grown with their own kids when this went down.
Just another way my two boys are complete opposites. Oldest was a Freshman in college and would be up and doing his school work by 7am. Youngest would sleep until noon and wouldn't start his school work until 2pm.

My oldest son a special education teacher has been home with his twin 4 year old boys since March. He spends his days calling parents and his students to track their progress and attending virtual meetings. His wife is an essential worker. I can only imagine what his days are like. I certainly understand your struggle RB, good on ya !

We had a few teachers emailed throughout to check up on their students or advise them that they weren't staying on track. Other teachers... not a peep from them. Even now I have no idea what my son's English grade is. Teacher has posted nothing on Schoology. Never got anything to say he was failing so I guess he is good.

The saga continues. Son completed two out of the three make up assignments for Art yesterday. Went to log in today and everything is gone. The assignments are no longer showing up nor does it say he submitted two of them. I have literally emailed 7 people to try and fix this. Only one has responded and said they couldn't help. Deadline to submit make up work is Monday.

I hear ya. I'm glad it's over, but I am concerned it will repeat in the fall. My kids can DO the work - but they're not really learning. You can't replace a day's worth of school with 90 minutes of online stuff. If that were even close to true, we could just do away with schools right now.

My kid's reactions were all over the place. My youngest would NOT do it unless compelled every SINGLE DAY. My oldest oddly enough was the MOST likely to complete the work first thing in the morning - but since he has a severe learning disability, he was guessing most of the time. And my middle child - who is exceptionally bright - slacked off at times for days, because it was easy.

It seemed like it didn't matter if the answers were correct, just that you did the assignment and put in some effort. If something was worth 20 points and you completed the assignment and did more than a one sentence answer, you got the full 20 points. My youngest literally completed the full quarter's assignments for two classes in a matter of a few hours. He didn't do any of his Art assignments but did the "make up" work which was three assignments (two worksheets and one drawing) in about an hour and got full credit for the course.
