Revelation 16:1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”
2 The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.
This is from the commentary.
Then I heard a loud voice from the temple: Since no one could enter the temple (Revelation 15:8), this loud voice from the temple must be God Himself, who personally initiates the horrific judgment of the bowls.
Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth: These bowls of judgment are the third woe described in Revelation 11:14. Because they are described as the wrath of God, they are chastisements (with the purpose of bringing repentance) as much as punishments (with the purpose of dispensing justice).
A foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast: Those who worshipped the beast and received his mark are now marked by God with loathsome sores.
I wonder... did some preacher or priest find these verses and preach them loud and proud when Smallpox or Measles broke out?Did some loathsome preacher tell the people of "his church" they got Smallpox or Measles because they were not good enough? Did some loathsome preacher tell them they had to increase their tithe to get rid of the loathsome sores? I would lay odds.... BUT.... no real preacher would do that... because...
A real preacher would read the verses and understand them in context. These sores are not going to welp up on Christians. These sores will be poured out on those who took the mark of the beast on their forehead or forearm.
Humans must be allergic to whatever the Beast's buddies used to "mark" those who pledged allegiance to the Beast.
So, if you break out in a good case of hives over the strawberry cheesecake today, don't worry. It's ok... you haven't taken the mark of the beast, and Jesus hasn't pulled Himself into the saddle yet.
This is the first "bowl".
It's full of nasty sores.
